Not my first but hopefully my last weightloss journey

  • Hi everyone! My name is Bernadette and I am a 24 year old student.
I have struggled with my weight my entire life. While being a kid and a teenager I was more on the chubby side, now I am clearly obese.

Two month before my highschool graduation I weighed 235lbs, so I started losing weight with exercise (Tae Bo and aerobics) and calorie counting. I managed to lose 44lbs from april to christmas but then "took a break". Of course after christmas I never started again. -_- So the pounds creeped back and I reached my all time high 265lbs. I "maintain" that weight for a year now, but I am so fed up with being obese.

I tried several times to start dieting again but I could never hang on for more than two weeks before I lost focus again. So I am really scared that will happen again, any tips on how to stay motivated over the process of losing weight?
Since my goal is 150lbs I have quite a long journey of 115lbs ahead of me, thus I joined this forum for support and tips.
I think my problem is, that I am very lazy with food, while I love cooking, when I am hungry I tend to go for the option being available the quickest. And may it be cookies for dinner... -_- Also I don't like weighing my food. Well I have to work on that.

I hope I can find some support and some insights in this forum, and maybe even someone who has a similar amount to lose to travel along with me.
  • welcome and good luck on your journey!

115 lbs is a lot of weight to lose, but you'll be glad you started today and not a week from now, month from now, or even another year from now.
  • Well done for taking the first step! It just kind of has to click I find, I can try to lose weight but unless something inside of me clicks I don't actually lose anything...

Are you going to exercise as well? Is there a sport or form of exercise that you enjoy? I find it easier to exercise loads than to tweak my diet too determinedly, I like the idea that I am sort of working towards it with my sweat and muscle aches on the way, rather than just eating less.

    All the best, Mila
  • Thank you very much guys

Ciao: Yes I know, it kinda paralyses me when I think about the whole amount. I'll just think about the next step, to get under the 260'ies.

GyMila: Yes, that totally describes my feelings as well. I don't mind the exercise, I mind the weighing and counting everything. I have an elliptical and also the p90x videos, which I adore eventhough I only manage to do 75% of the stuff they do there.
Also I have purchased a heartrate monitor and found out that I can "jogg" (on the elliptical) relativly comfortably around 140-150. That is so nice about this forum, you always find somebody who goes through the same stuff, or someone to share your thoughts and opinions with.

Oh and I totally forgot to mention, that english isn't my mothertongue. So if I happen to make some silly mistakes, please bear with me.
