Just..found..out..

  • that black pepper has 4 grabs a carbs for 1 tbsp! is this true? lol this seems bizarre!!! Made some "Chicken strips" (pork rines, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper) and for 1 serving it was 19.2g, i guess spices are dangerous!!??

    thoughts?
  • 2 tsp of black pepper is 2.72 grams of carbs MINUS the 1.11 grams of dietary fiber making it's true net carbs count 1.61 carbs per 2 tsp.. I think pepper is ok.
  • just surprising!
  • So This is what i made:

2 Chicken Breasts (no skin no bone) cut into 12 pieces
    3oz of pork skins (smashed)
    1tbsp pepper
    1tbsp onion powder
    1tbsp garlic powder
Then I coated the chicken pieces, the counter I used said that if i have 6 pieces its 19.2 grams

    seems high..

i think you need to take the recipe and divide in half, ignoring the fact that you had 6 pieces (really you had one breast, with half the spices.)

And also, ground black pepper never made anyone overweight, no matter how much of it they ate.
  • Thats what i was thinking, i was just surprised, maybe i need a new counter?
  • are you on a particular plan that requires you to count the minutia of spices like this? I mean, any plan that makes you think "spices are dangerous!" seem questionable.

I didn't get to be overweight from too much pepper, and I'm guessing you didn't either. Focusing on spices seems like misguided energy.
  • i that was more of a "OMG I didnt realize" then an actual belief, i had just never put together that some spices are that high in carb, i am not counting them, was just more of a thought process and thought i would share on here.

ah, it is cool when you start to realize what's in the stuff we eat. I guess I just never eat enough spices to have ever thought to look them up! Those do sound really tasty though.
  • it was sooo good, kinda like a chicken strip really the only carbs in it were from the seasoning and i totally get that no one got fat from pepper!! its just crazy how much i have realized what i am putting in my body when i am watching the carbs!!! I am more worried about the starchy carbs and what will turn into sugar!
  • Be careful with those pork rinds. Almost 500 calories in a 3 ounce serving

  • Rememeber that there is MORE to spices than just carbs, etc. Black pepper has amazing health benefits that are much more important than looking carbs, or whatever. '

for some of its benefits. I only recently learned about it, my mom would always tell me not to use a lot of pepper becuase it's bad.. well, she was clearly wrong, haha.
