Style at all sizes

  • Sometimes the big men's clothing in the shops can be quite boring and ugly. I am very style concious and love clothing. I like to make the most and look good. I am sure some people here feel this also? So I'm asking, what tips do you have for looking great even before you lose weight?

My profession is sewing. Part of the reason I got into it was to make nice things for myself, because I wanted to be stylish. I customise items such as adding nice buttons, trims etc or changing the cut. I am learning to make clothes too; my boss is very good in mentoring me. I chose some fabric and we are making a shirt together! If you can sew, this is a tip. If you cannot, you can always go to someone who can!

My other tip is CUTE ACCESSORIES!! No matter what size, you can have any lovely bag, shoes, jewellery etc you like, and I think lovely accessories can really make every day clothes into a spectacular outfit!

  • My experience has been that the clothing for overweight people is ugly, matronly and overcharged. I sometimes found something at Avenue that I actually didn't mind being seen in. As a rule when shopping at my heaviest the criteria was, does it fit ? Can I afford it ? If I actually liked it was a rare occurence.
  • Yes! For men so much of it is joggers and sports wear and things, nothing smart and stylish. But I insist on being stylish despite anything else. I am luck i can sew. I hope when I get real skilled I can help other big get the look they want if they cannot find it in the shops.
