Carb Cycling for Insulin Resistance

  • I am decided that this is my new WOE for a while. I just started. I tried carb cycling on my own, but I did regular/low/regular/low. I was frustrated that I didn't really see any results, and then I picked up a a magazine and it said that a 2 day diet was superior. The 2 day diet should consist of 2 consecutive days of no more than 50g carbs. The article stated that the benefit was for insulin resistance. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/239041.php

So I tried my first day yesterday, today I was either 2 lbs lighter because of the lower carbs, or I was just 2 lbs lighter from trying something different.

Either way, i am going to do this for at least 2 months to see if it helps.

any one else doing a low carb variation diet?

my only worry is the off days. I hope i don't mess everything up.

    So far today:

Red Raspberry leaf tea with 1/4 c almond milk, 1/2 tsp of domino light (sugar/stevia)
2 egg omelet with spinach, mushroom, green onion, and mozzarella cheese.
    4 cubes cantalope
5 pcs mini dark chocolate chips.
  • nobody is interested? Well, I started the carb cycling week at 199.8 and after carb cycling the first part, am 196.6. That's notable. Well, I still have to stick to my 1800cs for the rest of the week. I'm skeptical, but research backs it up.
  • Im interested! I'll be reading this on my next break
  • lol it was a short article! This is not nrt carbs right? I average 60 carbs monday-friday....hmmm where to cut back 
  • 1800cs? Are these your Calories for the day? Geeze I am under eating but not on purpose! 
  • MrsH, that is only one article I found to post. The study was conducted by a group of researchers lead by Michelle Harvie, Ph.D. http://www.aacr.org/home/public--med...es.aspx?d=2649

If you are already eating low carb Monday-Friday, that is fine. You are carb cycling, because you don't do that low on weekends right? The article didn't say anything about net carbs, just carbs. I don't pay attention to net. To me for now, a carb is a carb.

    I eat 1800 cs/day because I am breastfeeding.
  • Agreed a Carb is a carb 

Right, my weekends tend to be carb heavier but bad carbs so I am working on that!

If I do my BMR I should eat no less than 1664 cals if I want to lose weight

I'll look into this more & hopefully I can benifit too
  • hmm about to eat dinner, so I will look into this afterwards.
  • Very interesting. And seems easier.
  • There is more info about how the days around the low carb days increase leptin, and are therefore IMPORTANT for the overall effect.
  • i'm liking the low carb "feeling" I get. Definitely more "zippy". I hate feeling like I am starving. This comes at the end of the day when I miss the carbs the most, during the day, I don't miss them at all really.
  • Ok, so I am definitely getting that cleansed palate from the "2 day diet". I am wanting to eat things like fruits and veggies, I don't know if that is because I am sick of the meat/fish/eggs and cheese?

I thought if I ate one more bite of meat/fish/eggs I would puke. I am allowed 50 g, so I think I will eat some nuts and low carb fruits.
  • I feel really good doing this carb cycling, I haven't felt this good and energetic in a year! I'm glad that I am starting to feel like my old self. I have energy to exercise, and if I can just do it, I usually feel alot better, so I have been following an exercise regimen for 2 weeks now.

before, I would try, but I would be sooo tired, I just couldn't.
