Swimsuit Season - I'm Trying To Get Ready.

  • My goal is to be able to go to the beach in July (in 2 months) and look great in my new swimsuit. I have about 20 lbs more to lose and I am working on my stomach. I am in the process of looking for a great swimsuit. I will be getting this swimsuit at our local mall (Dillard's, Macy's, JCPenney, etc.) Has anyone purchased a swimsuit lately? What did you purchase? What color did you purchase?

Are there any swimsuits that have an under wire (like the bra that I wear) and doubles to support the girls as well?

    Let's talk swimsuits!!!!!!!
  • I am still wearing my 500 yr old suit which is a one-piece, but as to the question of the underwire, there are a variety of suits that have good support, so don't worry about it. I know I have seen some posts from some ladies that have recently bought new suits, so let's see 'em, ladies!
  • Yes, you can definitely find swimsuits that have underwires for extra support. I haven't bought a swimsuit in years, that's because I don't really feel comfortable exposing myself. However, I am considering getting one sometime next week. I'm not sure if I'll get fit enough to wear it this year, or feel confident enough to actually show my body, but I do want to purchase one, maybe that will help me with my swimsuit anxiety.

I would really like a coral, peachy-pink one, I think that color looks gorgeous on tanned skin.
  • Victoria Secret has GREAT support. I have never owned one, but tried on many at the store! I wish I could spend $60 on just the top cause they are super cute and supportive. But my problem is the under boob roll that always looks bad so Im just waiting to lose that, and my boobs will probably shrink as well I dont want to get a size that would be lose on me afterward
  • I got mine at Target they had an ok selection, so it might be worth checking them out. I got my main bikin in a soiid red/pinkish color, I can't remember if they had underwire tops.
  • I did something completely crazy and ordered this bikini from Victoria's Secret. Here's hoping that will motivate me to lose the last 20 lb.

Take a look at VS website and see the ones that look just like bras we wear, its great for big boobs
  • Great input everyone. I will check out everything that you all have suggested.

caramelkitty, I am about to do the same thing that you did. I will buy my swimsuit now and it will be motivation to fit into it. I will hang it up in my room and look at it every day and work hard to get into it and look fabulous!!!! By the way, that is one sexy swimsuit. I love it!
  • LAGreenEyes I probably won't look even remotely close to 1/8th as nice as she does, but I'll look better than I did a year ago. & If we push, we could look better than her, because we had to work for it.

When you get your bathing suit post a pic, let us see!!

You are right, we both will look better than we did last year and that is exactly what I am striving for as well. And together we will push push push and work hard to meet our goal. As soon as I get mine, I will post it. I'm deciding between 3 colors (Orange (don't laugh, it's my favorite color and looks great against my skin tone, Black and Red)

  • I prefer swimsuits with a solid color bottom & multi color top. I generally stick to black for bottoms, because then I can mix/match many different tops & have "several different" swimsuits. But I also have some red bottoms, a white bottom, and a couple of multi-color bottoms. Mix & match, mix & match, mix & match!

I love tankinis! - they are so versatile and comfortable. And I like a full-coverage bikini bottom, or a flirty skirt bottom - I just think they're so cute! Plus, I'm nearly 50 years old, I see no reason to try to wear a swimsuit like what I wore in my 20's. I don't have "the same body" and I am definitely not the same woman! Yet still, some bikini types do look pretty OK on me, and I do occasionally wear a bikini.

I like ordering on-line. I can get what I want in the style I want for the price I want, without having to go to 20 different stores.

Good luck on your Swimsuit Hunt. Have fun, and go for whatever you like!
  • I think you'd actually have the absolute best luck buying a swimsuit by your bras size. Don't believe me? Check out the difference here. However, please make sure that you're in the correct bra size first! If you need any help on that check out my fitting guide first here. Understanding that taking your underbust=band size is the best starting point in order to get enough support( since 80% of the support comes from your band, not your straps). I also have a guide here on buying bras/swimsuits while losing weight that you might be interested in.

As for brands that carry underwired swimsuits by bra size there's:

    Curvy Kate

    Freya

    Panache

There's also Bravissimo, Por Moi, Fantasie, Elomi, Midnight Grace. There are certainly more but I'm lazy.

Personally, I really can't imagine wearing a non-underwired suit. I currently own a Fantasie Swimsuit that I recently turned into a bikini. and I take it out for swimming laps and water aerobics. I typically wearing about a 28J/HH and it gives me a lot of support.

Although, in terms of color I really like purple so I've had my eye on that Curvy Kate swimsuit I posted above. I'm hoping that I can catch it on sale at some point in the future.
