Update: New goal weight.

  • Well, my doctor took one look at me this morning and announced, "...Yeah, we're going to be doing some measuring on you today."

    Body fat: 29% (healthy range)
    Waist-to-hip ratio: 0.7 (healthy range)
    Weight: 144.0
    Blood pressure: 118/70

She sent me for bloodwork (which I've already had completed; I went straight to the hospital from her office) and, most importantly, has realized that 125 is too low a weight for me. In her words: "You're better off maintaining at 140 and looking like you're 125 than going to 125 and looking like you're 100."

And, she wrote me the letter I need to adjust my ultimate goal weight to 140. There's no reason for her not to; all my measurements are fine, and most importantly, I feel amazing where I am. Why should I kill myself to get to 125 just because it's 125?

As for the dizziness...she thinks it's a combination of a couple things. I have a neurological disorder and she thinks that my recent increase in exercise, coupled with perhaps not enough calories probably triggered a drop in blood sugar which only would have been exacerbated by my disorder (the condition is *very* well controlled, but like she said, there aren't really too many people around with this disorder who are active enough to have lost this much weight; most people with it are wheechair-bound at the very least.)

Just wanted to update you all.
  • Yay!!! Congrats!
  • That's great news! I hope WW accepts it without lip
  • Im glad things are good with you and that you are looking good and feeling good at the weight you are at. Ive set my goal weight a lil low for me but like ive repeated ly said once i get close i will know if its to low or what I need to do i think our bodies change sometime what use to look good doesnt look as good as it did.

Well, I have the letter. I already spoke about it to my leader a few weeks ago and she told me that as long as I have a note from my doctor stating that she's okay with the higher goal weight, they'll have no problem accepting it. I think it might depend, too, on the leader or whatever, but luckily the leaders at my meetings are not as hung up on numbers as some might be.
  • Congrats! Glad your doctor didn't have any issues with it
  • Congrats - I'm sure you look great!!
  • Congratulations, Snoofie! I'm glad everything has turned out so well for you. Thank you for the update.
  • great news! I also hope that WW doesn't give you a hard time (it doesn't sound like it). Wonderful job! Congrats on your success!
  • Good for you! I am glad you doctor listened to you and how you are feeling about your weight!
  • I love that you took control of your own health, listened to your body and knew when to call it quits with the weight loss. Good for you!

I think more of us need to listen to our bodies than the ideal weight that a chart says that we should be. I am 5ft 4" and at 125lbs I look "hungry'. Its only 5lbs less than my goal weight but I do not like how I look at that weight or lower, yet I have had a gym instructor tell me that I should be weighing about 115-120lbs...what? Of course I told him.....and I encourage everyone to flush out of your life or take a stand against persons who try to get you to a weight you know in yourself that is not reasonable for you
