Damn you chinese buffet!!

  • I knew that today I was going to a chinese buffet with my fam. I had it all planned out. I would save the majority of my calories for the buffet so that I could splurge a bit. I was gonna fill up mostly on veggies and then just have really small portions of what I craved.

I go into the buffet, walked up, grabbed my plate, looked at the food and said SCREW IT!! I literally hurt. My tummy is gurgling. I actually felt no enjoyment with the food and since I felt so sick and gross afterwards I didn't enjoy much of the company either.

I realize that tonight is just a tiny blip on the radar that is the big picture but still, I feel nasty. I think I have a chinese food hangover.
  • I swear, Chinese food is a challenge even without the buffet.

I am sure you feel rotten. Drink water if you can and get ready to feel better tomorrow.
  • Don't be to hard on yourself... happens to the best of us...me included

I find drinking club soda or fuzzy plain water (perrier)with a bit of lemon juice help a lot with the stomach issues..

    tomorrow is a new day!
  • Happened to me recently too - had a horrible migraine from the salt and ended up throwing it all up. Definitely not worth it!
  • Bf got Chinese today killed majority of his leftovers damn! I can at least be proud I didn't scarf down all of the leftovers.
  • I too hosed myself at Chin Chin in LA last night. Wow, everything on the menu looked like it had a billion calories. My friend and I finally figured out how to order plain steamed veg and tofu, then made the mistake of ordering the mystery brown sauce on the side -- which we finished. Although this wasn't so bad, it was the second dinner of the night (oops) for me.

I haven't been to China, but a relative of mine teaches Chinese studies and has been many times. Her Chinese food is very fresh, not glopped up by all those sauces or deep-fried at all. How did US Chinese food get such a healthy rep?!
  • Happened to me as well a few weeks ago - wound up gaining 2 pounds in water weight just from the salt. It went away although it took a good 4-5 days for the salt to clear my system.

As the others have said, chin up and keep moving forward.

That's what I've heard too. That most of the food is steamed not fried and loaded with salt and sugar. I've also heard that veggies often take over the main dish while meat is more of a side dish. It also weird how chinese food differs in various part of america. Some have cantonese-styled dishes and others have I think sezchuan-styled dishes. Or I should say "inspired" dishes seeing as maybe 10% is probably actually chinese while the rest is american interpretation.

Ever notice that american doesn't have very many original recipes, we instead take from other cultures and pervert their food with grease/fat, salt and sugar? Think about italian, chinese, and mexican food. Even greek food is way off.
