Morning Vitamins

  • I'm having a difficult time keeping my morning vitamins down. A few mornings I've actually not taken them because I don't want to vomit. I normally have a shake for breakfast and thought maybe it wasn't enough "food" in my stomach so I switched to having an oatmeal with the same outcome.

Anyone else having problems keeping vitamins down and how did you solve it..

I don't have any issues with my vitamins. Maybe you could take your morning ones at lunch? You can play with the timings of them to suit your body.

Hate to think of my mornings starting like that.

    Good Luck!
  • I'm not on the Ideal Protein Diet, so I hope you don't mind my posting. I have the same problem with some vitamins. I think it has to do with the source/quality. If I buy a high quality, food-based vitamin, I have no problems. If I try to take the more synthetic (cheaper) kind, it comes right back up. For a long time I had to use a liquid. I also take my vitamins right after eating, not before.

    Hope that helps.
  • Try taking them a few hours after you eat or break them up as in just take the multi-vitamin with breakfast wait a few hours and take the the other.

I cosign this. Centrum, One-A-Day, and pretty much the ones you find at your local drugstore are synthetic vitamins and they make me vomit too. I take Rainbow Light as my food-based multivitamin and it never makes me feel sick.
My nutritionist and doctor said that many people have issues with synthetics.
  • Make sure you are not taking them on an empty stomach, that is a mistake I made when I first started. I take mine after I eat and everything is fine now
  • Talk to your coach is my first suggestion. But like Wuv I eat first, wait about 15 minutes if I can then take my two AM pills and try to get in my 1st liter of water within about 20 minutes of taking my pills. On an empty stomach I feel it for about an hour.
  • I usually take my vitamins "with food". Meaning I will have some of my shake, take a couple of vitamins, have a few more sips of shake, take a couple more, etc...

The only time I have ever had a problem with vitamins is if I take them on a completely empty stomach.

I also second that you need to make sure you are getting quality vitamins. Look for vitamins in a "vegetarian capsule". Your system can break down the capsule much easier than a tablet (like an asprin or Centrum vitamins) and you only get a small percentage of the vitamin. Blue Bonnet, Sol-Ray, Rainbow light, Garden of Life are a few very good options for quality vitamins in capsule form.
