slimming world info....

  • after checking out the various slimming club diets around, i like the sound of slimming world (HATE any plan involving POINTS!!!), but there are no classes near me. Can anyone give me any info. on how to follow this plan at home?

    I understand the basics of the green days and original days (sticking to mainly green days so far - does this work?), and not combining meat with complex carbs, but is there anything else I should know?

    Also, can you eat cheese on green days? I've been including low fat cheese with baked potatoes and pasta dishes.

    And are sandwiches ok on original days - e.g. turkey and salad on brown??

    It would be a great help if anyone who has succesffully lost on this plan could post their typical eating plan for me to see how it should be done!

    It might be an idea to visit the Slimming World site.......I believe you can subscribe by mail and then you will be able to get all the right information.

    There are loads of free foods you can eat on a green or red day (they are different depending on which day you are doing) And then there are Healthy Options which give you your dairy choices, bread and cereals and either meats on a green day or carbs on a red day. Anything that is not part of these lists is then counted as a "sin" and must be added up to a maximum of 15 per day.

    So you can eat cheese on a green day but it would be one of your Options and limited in the amount.

  • If you can't get to a class i suggest you buy the magazine..that is all i've got to go on and the website all the information is in the mag on how to follow the plan plus some great recipes you can eat cheese on a 'green' day but only 28g/1oz that would be a choice from your "A" list..anymore would be added into your "Sins" and you can have a turkey sandwich but on an "Original" day you would have to count the bread from the "B" list and again the amount is limited to 57g/2ozs anymore than that is added to you "Sins". It's not as complicated as it sounds I only started this plan a week ago so i'm not a 'success' story yet and i have to tweak the plan to suit me as i live in Canada and can't get the branded foods but if you live in U.K. it will be a doddle.   • I would add- be careful with bread. You can have more of the nimble/weightwatchers bread but bread is many a Slimming WEorld's downfall as there is some lovely bread out there - so no midnight toasties/ fancy bread pig outs, save it strictly for your sarnies/beans on toast type lunch and you should be ok!

    Go easy on the cheese. I avoided it for months as low fat cheese is disgusting and blocks of "normal" cheese in fridge is tooooo tempting for me.

  • I think you are right about bread. After a week of being super strict on the slimming world plan, I happily jumped on the scales last night to find I had lost....NOTHING :-(

    I usually have two slices of wholemeal Irish soda bread (for the fibre - aiming to speed up digestion process), so maybe I am wheat intolerant (which would explain why my diet of pasta isn't helping).

    So dissappointed...thought I'd be at least 8lbs down at this stage :-(

  • By the way, on green days you can have 1oz of full fat hard cheese for a B choice as well as an A choice.

    To be honest I think the book you get explaining all of this is invaluable. If you could make it to even one class to join and never go back (you will get reminder letters/calls if you fill your actual details out on the joining form though) you might find the diet a lot easier.

    Joining officially costs £10 (plus that week's class fees of £3.75, ie £13.75), but there are always offers on this, at the moment I think it's half-price membership (£8.75), then it will switch to full-price but getting your first class for free (£10).

    I can't remember if anyone answered this bit for you, but yes it's totally possible to lose just on green days (I do), but you're not supposed just to stick to red days, as the odd green day gives a healthy balance.
  • Thanks for all your help. Unfortuntely there are no slimming world clubs in Ireland, so no chance of getting to one!

    Have decided to ditch SW plan, and try the low GI/Sugar Busters plan, as i do think this is my problem (would explain why I haven't been losing whilst sticking to a pasta/baked potato/cereral regime)

    Bought the book at lunchtime - seems to make sense. I'll let you know how I get on....
