Granola/Trail Mix Reciped Needed...

  • My son has been bugging me to buy him some trail mix. We're all about to start the SUgarbusters WOE and I would rather make some in bulk that we all can enjoy.

Any good recipes? Or perhaps a suggestion of where I can buy (in bulk) a low-sugar , but tasty version?

    thanks in advance

  • Hi,
I used to make my own trail mix when I was lifeguarding and needed energy over my strange work hours. I always made my own just by cruising the bulk bins. You can make a sweet or a savory batch. I like using different kinds of nuts, dried cranberries *much bettter tasting than rasins*, chocolate m&ms, and dried fruits. For a savory batch, I used spicy/ BBQ peanuts, Bits and Bites mix, and things like roasted BBQ soy nuts, dried veggies, and so on.

The thing with most trail mix is that it isn't fat or sugar free, but it is a great way to carry around some healthy energy and it's certainly a lot better than the vending machines at work. If you want to cut back on sweets, say, then reduce the amount of M&Ms and add some almonds or something else.

    Good luck!
  • Granola and Trail Mix tend to have a lot of calories in a little bit of stuff...it's great if you can stop at 2 tablespoons. I like walnuts, cranberries and raisins.
  • 2 Tablespoons of granola? That would get lost in the bowl. However, it would make a good topping for a bowl of nonfat, sugar free yogurt.
