Measuring woes!

  • I was visiting my best friend this past week. She's a dietetics intern and I look to her for healthy food ideas...*L*. Anyway, she had Fibre One Honey Clusters in her pantry, and one morning I had them for breakfast and fell in love with them.

The problem comes in when I try to calculate the points. According to the information on the box, a serving is 1 1/4 cups (which...seems like a lot to me; what do you all think?) and comes out to 5 points for that amount. But I usually only eat a cup of cereal, if that.

What I'm having trouble with is trying to come up with a points value for the amount I would eat. This is really filling cereal (I guess because of all the fibre) and so I doubt I'd even be able to eat a cup of it. I'd probably go for about half a serving (so about 3/4 cup.) That would come out to about 2.5 points (but I guess I'd need to round up?)

Ugh. Does anyone else eat this cereal who can help me figure this out? I'd really like to pick up a box for myself because I hate eating the same cereal over and over, but I want to be sure of the points value.
  • Each 1/4 cup is 1 point, so your 3/4 cup serving would be 3 PP.
Enjoy! (and if you get a chance, try the Fiber One caramel delight. It is super yummy, too!)
  • On their website their nutritional info for the honey clusters has a serving at one cup.

Based on the website info and etools, one a one cup serving (without milk) is 4 pp, 2/3 or 3/4 cup would be 3 pp, and 1/2 cup would be 2 pp.

I'm going to have to check that out. I've been eating Fiber One a lot in the mornings lately but have been getting itchy to try something new.

    Edit: Oops I reply slow.
  • Ooooh, that sounds good. I am at 44 points right now, so finding a filling breakfast is never an issue, but I'm always on the hunt for ideas for when I get to lower points and have to be a bit more conservative with my meals.
  • Thank you for all the quick replies! I appreciate them.

Keli10801: I saw the caramel flavour on the website last night. I'm not sure if I'd be a fan of that one, simply because I don't really like sweet cereals. Is it super sweet, or does it just have a subtle caramel taste?

Somni: Thank you for the tips! Now I have all the points values for any amounts I might eat. Yay!

Tudor Rose: Finding a filling breakfast is a big issue for me. I'm at 29 points (have been since I started) and so finding filling foods that aren't high in points is REALLY tough for me. Especially since I *love* breakfast. *L* I'm always on the lookout for foods high in fibre/protein and low in points, and this cereal is definitely high on the fibre scale. (FYI: Their bars are really, REALLY good too, and are also high in fibre!)
  • I eat this daily and the serving size is 1 cup. And it is filling!
  • Put into etools the serving size and numbers that are on the box.

Then if you eat less adjust serving size.
