i learnt something today

  • So my husband in his almost weekly ritual went to publix and bought himself a sub from the deli. A chicken tenders with swiss cheese, mayo and lettuce.
    I stole half, ate it, THEN decided to add it to my tracker.... around 19 points (picking items as close to the ingredients as humanly possible) and it was just one half T_______T
    i like them but i guess i wont be eating that again
  • If you like it, you should try to make your own healthier version. I LOVE encheritos from Taco Bell, so I invented my own recipe using healthier ingredients for 5p+ as opposed to 10 for the one from Taco Bell, and they taste amazingly similar!

  • We live and learn. At least you tracked it, you could have just forgot about it and continued with the rest of your day. I know many people who just don't track something like that and start fresh at their next meal or the following day... good for you. Its a shock when you realize how many points something is though, I've had shock like that before too.

  • I learned a similar lesson at Crisper's last weekend. I thought I was being sort of good when I ordered a 1/2 sandwich and soup. I was planning to splurge a little bit and ordered a 1/2 chicken salad sandwich on wheat and a tomato bisque with no cheese. A similar meal at Panera is only 12p+, this one turned out to be 19p+. I was not happy! Lesson learned: Always calculate point values before going out to eat :-(

    Tip to lower points- tell them no cooking it in butter or oil, ask to have butter on the side (for potatoes, veg, bread, etc.) Same with any dressing/sauces for salads or sandwiches- you want it on the side. Grilled items are more lower than fried if a restaurant doesn't have a menu with nutritional information.

  • Do not stop eating something because it may not be points friendly. Eat an amount of it that is, and use those weeklies!
  • I did the exact same thing this past weekend with a deli sandwich at Sheetz. Lesson learned!
