I have a pink dial scale at home that I got from Target for like $15 . . . I like that it has big black lines at the 10-lbs and in-between the verdict is basically like, you're getting closer, or farther, and it's not, as someone else said, 1/10-pound increments that will drive you crazy.
That said, the house I'm currently in (I house-sit a few times a year for this family) has a doctor's scale. It's the kind with the height measurer and the slide-y weights. That is a lot of fun to use, and I'd imagine pretty accurate. You get to put the big weight on the bottom down a notch every 50 pounds and it goes ka-chunk very satisfyingly.
