OMG I feel sooo dumb!

  • This is kind of funny, in the how did you not know kind of way! I have always bought and drank diet soda. I have never been very brand loyal and jump around pretty often with different flavors.

My latest little addiction has been Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash. I had thought I had been buying diet for ohh about the last 2 months. Last night, while sipping on my soda, I look at the can and it says (in BOLD letters) MADE WITH REAL SUGAR I was like OMG, what??? I had thought all this time it was diet. Don't know why I thought that, but I was absolutely sure it was a diet soda. After further looking over the can it has 40g's of sugar, 35mg's of sodium, and 160 calories!

All this time I had wondered WHY I was losing soooo slowly. Well maybe it is because I was consuming about 600 calories per day of this soda! I am from now on giving up all soda. I feel like a complete idiot!

At least it gave me and my son a good laugh last night when I went into shock on what I had been doing to myself all this time, maybe the scale will actually start to really move now!
  • Oh yes, your scale should move a lot better now!

Were you eating all your flex points each week? Maybe it was covered partially by them.
  • Not all my flex points, and none of my activity points which I log every day between exercise and my pedometer I wear. They are probably one of the only reasons I didn't gain. Well lesson learned anyway, I will be reading the labels of everything a lot sooner now!
  • Can't wait to hear how much you lose now that you've found this.
  • Get out of town -- the EXACT same thing happened to me last week with the exact same pop! I had always purchased the diet version of the Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash but the other week at the grocery store, I must not have been paying much attention. I inadvertently bought the regular and realized it after drinking one can. I'm keeping it in the fridge and will serve it to my Thanksgiving guests who can't tolerate diet pop.
Generally the producer creates packaging that makes it easy to identify the difference between diet and regular, but in this case there's not much difference re: colors and so forth. Glad you finally realized the mixup!
  • Honestly, giving up soda helps so much.
I havent drank soda in about 4 months. Even before I started ww.
I have however started back on coffee but I dont drink it daily and it's only because it's cold out. When I do drink coffee it's regular black coffee at first which is 0 points then I add skim milk which is 2 and one packet of equal which is 1 point. Sooo not too bad. But seriously, getting off the soda makes a difference.
  • Peanut - how much skim milk are you adding?? 1 cup of skim milk is 2 points...if you're only using about 1-2tbsp then it's 0 points, and one packet of Equal is also 0

Where did you get those point values from?
  • The pocket guide. Skim milk isnt listed but it is fat free and fat free milk is 1 point I think. And also the pocket guide doesnt list artificial sweeteners but it does say sugar (any type) 1 point.
  • 1 cup of fat free milk/1% is 2 points...but it's unlikely that you're using a full cup for just coffee, you're probably only using 1-2 tablespoons, which is zero points. and the Equal isn't sugar, its aspartane (artificial) which is also zero points.
  • I see, thanks
  • I did the same thing with that Sierra Mist - fortunately I only drank one before realizing it wasn't diet. It is pretty tasty though.
