  • LOVE NSV's like this!!! For years I dreaded going to the doctor because every ailment was always because "you're obese, you're overweight..." BLABLABLA. I couldn't go in for a TB test without being told the perils of my weight. That's just how military doctors are. I got used to it.

Anyway. The front page of my medical chart lists my current health risks. There are things like allergies, medications, etc there. The last entry on the list says "OBESITY" in big type. It always glared at me. I hated that damn thing!

Yesterday I went to the doctor to refill my allergy medication. It was a new doctor I'd never seen before. He flipped to the front page of my chart. Looked at it, looked at me, looked at it.... and said "That can't be right" and crossed it out! HA. I didn't want to sit down to go through the whole thing so I just nodded, smiled, took my RX and went on my merry way.

But it felt awesome . Yesterday I weighed in at 169... which according to the BMI is 'NORMAL!'
  • Dude, that is AWESOME. Yay!
  • Oh my gosh, that is like the best NSV! Hilarious!
  • Brilliant!
  • awsome.

I went to my doctor once for a rash and she told me it was because I was fat.

It was a virus. she wasn't my doctor much longer.
  • That's great!
  • OMG!! that's awsome I can't wait till the day I'm in the 'normal' range I'm inspired
  • I know the exact label you're talking about - so annoying going to military docs! And I'm not sure what is so thrilling about your BMI being under some arbitrary number but there's something about it that is just AWESOME. congrats!!
  • That is a great NSV!

I went to the doc today and she asked me if I was exercising, I told her yes! She looked at my chart and said "Oh wow your weight is really down from last time you were in... You are doing great!" It always sounds really good coming from a M.D.
  • Congratulations!! That sounds soooo awesome. It means that they can't even imagine that anyone would ever put you at obese! What a feeling!

Congratulations on hitting normal, too! It's totally arbitrary but I look forward to being there myself.

And a third and final congratulations to caseygail for getting that affirmation from the doctor! You ladies are going great, keep it up!
  • Awesome!
  • That's a awesome NSV!

It's not just military doctors I kept getting sinus infections and UTI's and didn't know why, he would only tell me to lose weight. Then I got a different doctor and he found a solution for me and I don't suffer as much anymore.

In weekly trips the first doctor never gave me these options and I was there EVERY week.

And the way he treated me made me feel stubborn so I never pushed myself to lose weight like I wanted to. I wanted him to deal with me being fat, haha.
  • woot! That's awesome! Love that story!
  • i love your story valrock-- your story inspired me to get back on track. i'm back here at 3fw after a looong break. i've gained back almost half of the weight i worked so hard to lose after being extremely lazy about exercise and spending too many hours in my kitchen baking butter-based treats

    thanks!
  • Wow, you really inspire me every time I see one of your posts. As soon as I see your avatar I go, thats the girl in Japan!! Haha. Awesome story.

When I read that post and then saw your avatar again I thought, What??? Obese! No way!! And then I saw your beginning weight and I you just inspired me all over again. I love that you have had so much success and I'm happy to hear these little NSV's that just make your day!
