Positive self-talk....

  • I have had some struggles with my health this summer and have been feeling kind of detached from my former gusto with my healthy living tasks and plans.

I reminded myself of how my outlook in so, so important. I found this article to be helpful to me. Thought you might find it helpful too. It's about positive self-talk. (This is similar to what Dr. Judith Beck also talks about in her book.)

scroll down a little...to where it says: Staying Positive About Weight Loss
  • Thank you, Beverleyjoy. That was a good read (and, I agree, similar to Beck).
  • I'm a big believer in positive self-talk. Shoot, I believe positive thinking in general. My grandfather is big into "Positive Thinking" and though we make fun him, because truly the man is obsessed, he has the right idea. I grew up with lectures and a set of tapes called "Make Your Own World" with a little character names "Spokes" and his "Magic Mirror".

I attribute my life's successes entirely to positive thinking. And I think that once my own self-talk about my weight loss turned to positive statements, my whole outlook changed and I was able to move forward. It was from this that I was able to find the joy in every day activities and it was from this that I was happy with myself well before goal.
  • Thank you for sharing
  • Thanks for posting. It is an interesting article. In addition to the part on self talk, I also liked the Steps for Setting Goals.
  • I really enjoyed Thanks !!!
  • I have really transitioned over the years into more and more positive self-talk.

And boy does it make a difference. When I catch myself being too demanding/demeaning/negative in my thoughts, I actually try to turn it around...understand the emotion, let it go...then think of something true I believe that is positive to say about myself.
