15 weeks until Thanksgiving?

  • I woke up this morning thinking about how fast the time will zip by till the holidays....and how I'm going to avoid the baking (and eating) of cookies that has taken over my life at that time. A very scary thought since my holiday baking, for some reason, didn't appear to end till about the middle of February.

Perhaps the pictures they took of me when I joined IP in June will deter me this year.

  • I already told my family "sorry, but I won't be making any cookies or sweets for the holidays this year. This is the year I have finally decided to work on ME, and that stuff is more of a temptation and threat to my new lifestyle than I am willing to take right now." My dad kind of pouted for a minute until my mom said she completely understood and if people want Christmas cookies, they can make 'em their darn selves or buy 'em. HUGE weight off my shoulders! Good job making a very difficult decision and keep up the good work!
  • I generally try to make deserts and stuff during the holidays. I think I will be joining you ladies by not baking. I really struggle during the holidays I have been working so hard here lately, so it would be horrible to blow my diet. Well I really wish I could find a healthy pumpkin pie recipe... any suggestions?

    That's a great idea....

Thanks...look how great you are doing....I love this program.

  • wow - the title took me by surprise! is thanksgiving really that soon?!
  • I will have phased out by Thanksgiving, but, I think there are many IP friendly things I will incorporate into my holiday meal. This weight loss is gone forever, and no stinkin' Turkey Day is bringing it back!! Turkey breast, rhubarb with splenda instead of cranberries, mashed turnips instead of mashed potatoes, lots of raw veggies...it's definitely doable!!

    Stacey,

I started IP last year the week of Thanksgiving. I had just learned about it and decided "no time like the present! There will ALWAYS be a birthday, wedding, shower, anniversary, travel, holiday OR SOMETHING to interfere. So, if this was going to be me changing my lifestyle, I might as well start NOW!"

I made my Thankgiving last year with:

    Turkey
Mashed rutabaga and Turkey au jus
Green bean casserole without a cream soup
    Rhubarb
    Salad
    Cooked greens

For dessert I made IP pudding for me and pumpkin pie for the others.

I also had dinner rolls for the others eating.

It was a great dinner. And, no one felt cheated.

I love this program, too. First time I have had hope in years.
  • Stacy41, I love your ideas. Maybe we could use this thread to come up with a really IP friendly holiday meal which we could carry over to Christmas, As well.
I am looking forward to the holidays and I love family traditions. This year I want to come up with some new ones that don't involve food!
