I just had electrolysis

  • Well didn't that hurt like a female dog...

I guess I must have a super low pain threshold, lol.

Has anyone else had it before? How much of the hair you had removed grew back and how many times did you have to have it again? (Cus I'm soooo NOT looking forward to that. It felt like getting injected with fire)
  • I've been doing it for years now. Initially about once a month, now down to 10-12 weeks between appointments. I tried laser but found that much more painful. I am a huge pain chicken but have found the psychological payoff so good that I keep the appointments.

I don't believe I've had any individual hair grow back, but new hairs pop up which is why this is a standing appointment. Also have been slowly working away at the mustache hairs which is the most painful spot so usually only 5 minutes per appointment spent on that area.
  • Never had it done -- sorry to hear it was painful!

Can't something be put on? Before the appt or would that be bad?

I remember when I got my ears pierced again and daughter's pierced for the first time another mom told me to rub Orajel on our ears. I wouldn't have thought of it because to me that was for teething babies.

I went first and only did one ear so I could compare and boy was it a world of difference! I did both DD's ears and she took it well.

  • In North Carolina there was a very public death of a student who over-used the numbing cream prior to laser treatment. I tried laser and electrolysis after that incident (2 different offices) and was offered nothing more than ice before and after. Don't think any of the providers want to take a chance of even recommending anything chemical.
  • They do use soothing gel stuff before and after the treatment. I took some painkillers beforehand thinking that might help. I also happened to have it on sensitive areas (at the risk of it being tmi... the breast area... omg so painful)

I'm thinking of getting laser for the upper lip. My mum's had laser and had quite a lot of success with it.

I now know that I would probably not be able to handle getting a tattoo, lol
  • Hrm... then I guess that's all anyone can do?

But you are right -- breast area is pretty sensitive place.
