HIIT me hard

  • Holy moley! HIIT is **** hahaha! I thought I almost died.

    I did today 20min with ratio 2:1 (slow:sprint).. I coouldnt finisht he 1min sprint. I would sprint then slow a little then sprint again until the minute is over. The best part I did it outdoors, doing this on a treadmill was **** and harder!

    I cant wait until it becomes better and easier.

    Any HIIT follower here?
    How many times do you HIIT?
    For how long?
    I cant wait to see my body fat (specially my belly's) melt away!
  • I just began HIIT less than 2 wks ago. I Do it for 30-40 mins 5x a wk. I have lost 10lbs so far!
  • I do it off and on. It seems to help! Today I did 20 minutes with a 4:1 ratio, it was sooo hard! My legs hurt, but its' gonna get the job done!
  • From my understanding, a 2:1 rest:work ratio is Interval Training, not High Intensity Interval Training.

    HIIT should be done at a level that is unsustainable at >30-45 seconds. I found this:

    Quote:
    General Guidelines

    * Warmup
    o Specific to movement
    o Alternate progressively intense warmups between short active recovery periods
    * Workout
    o Near maximal sprints followed by 4 minute
    o Repeat multiple times
    * Duration
    o Begin with 2 to 3 workout bouts for your fist workouts
    o Over the next weeks progressively increase duration, number of bouts, and speed
    * Frequency
    o 2-3 non consecutive days
    o Ideally days that weight training is not performed

    Traditional Sprints (Outdoor on Track)

    * Warmup
    o 2 min brisk walk then 25% jog (30 sec)
    o 2 min brisk walk then 50% run (20 sec)
    o 2 min brisk walk then 90% sprint (15 sec)
    o 3 min walk
    * Workout:
    o Sprint 100% (5 to 10 sec) then 4 minute walk
    o Repeat multiple times
    So for a true HIIT workout, it's 100% effort for 5-10 seconds, then a 4 minute active rest (fast walk, slow jog) in between.

    The studies that have proven higher weight and body fat loss during HIIT training have used this method. There's nothing wrong with interval training, it's a very good method of increasing your cardio fitness and losing weight and body fat. But it's not true HIIT.

    Google studies by Tabata and Tremblay for more information.
  • I kind of cycle the way I do cardio...

    One day I do HIIT, the other day I do longer duration (such as 30 to 45 minutes), but doing 4 minutes at about 70% - 75% of my max heart rate, and then 30 seconds to one minute of full-effort sprint.

    HIIT is the most grueling, but you're also done quickly, which is definitely nice.

    However, it requires a lot of motivation to go all out, so I don't do it "all the time", but do the thing I just described as well.
  • Here is a good site http://www.intervaltraining.net/hiit.html ...

    I don't think you should do HIIT more than twice per week because it's so intense...
