Pasta Portion Confusion

  • I am able to have a 1/4 of a cup of pasta on my current menu. Do any of you know if that is cooked or dry? My pkg had 16 oz in it, so I figured half of that is one cup and then did a quarter of that. It was angel hair, so its not like loose noodles I could easily measure. After I cooked it it looked like well over a cup, whoops... I think I did it wrong, but I ate it anyway. I gave several hours of massage today, so I'm hoping I burned enough calories that my body won't revolt and gain anything from the carb overload.
  • 1/4 cup cooked is VERY little i hope they meant quarter cup uncooked which would then probably puff up to about a cooked cup !
  • In a 16oz box of pasta, there are 8 servings. 2oz is a standard portion, or 56 grams of dry pasta. I have found that a kitchen scale is well worth the money. There is no guesswork. You can find them anywhere from $20- $60 or more. I love my kitchen scale.
  • I agree with Jenny. I'd be getting a scale and weighing each portion.
  • My menu does not have pasta on it, but I can have oatmeal as a starch and the 1/4 cup measurement is cooked (1/8 c dry) which is a VERY small portion. The carb portions are all very small and limited on this plan. Unfortunately I would guess the same to be true with the pasta.
  • Dry weight of 16 oz. does not translate to 2 cups. You weigh pasta dry before cooking or measure in a cup after cooking. How much that will be in a cup depends on the cut of the pasta...and angel hair will fit in a cup.

Thanks for the replies... I feel like I'm more confused than before though. LOL I have a kitchen scale, but the 1/4 cup was throwing me off, since that's not a weight. I don't know that we are supposed to have a standard portion. A standard portion of beans is 1/2 cup, but the plan says 1/4 cup. I'm guessing the 1/4 cup is cooked and that we just get a minuscule amount, since the bean portion is so tiny. I'm going into the center tomorrow, so I'll ask and let ya'll know what the verdict is.
  • I am half way thru preconditioning and also would like to know the result of the 1/4 cup issue..... thank you.....
  • So the verdict is in. The 1/4 cups are of cooked oatmeal or pasta. I was hoping that wasn't so, but at least I'll be doing it right. I asked how we are supposed to measure the dry pasta to equal that amount and the lady at my center said to cook a little extra, then measure it and save the rest.
