  • Does anyone have a hard time with only weighing once a week? I fee like I become obsessed with the scale and want to weigh myself everyday. I really just want to weigh once a week and be good with that. I work in a surgical center and pass scales everywhere all day! I know this is just dumb but it's like a compulsion for me. Any suggestions?
  • Well, this is going to sound counter-intuitive, but if you want to weigh yourself, just do it. But don't be hard on yourself.
  • I weigh myself probably 5 out of 7 days a week. I just can't help myself and I feel like it keeps me in a good mind set. I was just reading a article online today that said people who were naturally thin weighed themselved almost everyday so I say go for it.
  • As long as it's only once I day, I say ok but if you find yourself weighing 7 times a day, maybe that would be a problem. Other wise-no worries, do what makes you happy
  • I know how you are feeling right now... I've been there. One weigh in becomes a multiple and daily obsession, and being that your weight fluctuates for a myriad of reasons you (at least myself) become an emotional wreck!!! It is utterly and ridiculously frustrating. My remedy has just been to focus on what obssessively weighing on the scale feels like... Its sucks for me... I am wired, get extremely frustrated and I feel like I have no control. Then too it also makes me feel hopless like losing this weight is never going to happen. My sister whose a fitness instructor told me once that" You didn't gain this weight in a day, and it won't come off in a day either." That sticks with me. At first I would only weigh myself every two weeks so that I wouldn't go crazy. Now, I weigh myself once a week and stay away from the scale the other six days, reminding myself how good being in control really feels...
  • Every day. It's not necessarily a bad thing at all... helps you keeps tabs on where you are. The key is being aware of the ups/down and not letting it get to you... If you're the type that gets upset because you see 2lbs from TOM or a salty food day you probably should stick to weekly or else you'll drive yourself nuts.

    *raises hand*

I am a SLAVE to the scale. My chronic scale stalking is just as bad as my discipline with dieting.

Maybe for lent, I should give up weighing myself. Ha!
  • Phat Girl: Giving up the scale for lent is a good idea!!! I might do that.

I was an every day weigher...until recently (it hasn't been a week yet) but I needed help!! I was weighing everytime I passed the scale, which was in the bathroom. There were some days I would weigh at least 7 times and of those 7, 6 were between 5:30 and 10pm, when I was home from work. Some mornings I would weigh myself multiple times before I went to work. It was getting to me and becoming a problem. I asked my bf to hide my scale, and he did willingly. It has been hard not to weigh myself but I do feel better. I am focusing more on how I really feel instead of letting the number decide for me.

It depends on you though. If you are currently weighing once a week and you feel the obsession creeping up on you I would try and hold back and not become an everyday weigher. It may consume you. It depends on if you can handle it. I couldn't.
  • I weigh daily, but just record Monday's weight. The daily weighing keeps me on plan.

It's funny, I first typed it as a joke, but the more I think about it, I may give up the scale for lent. I am going to put the scale in my car. That should do the trick.
  • I actually stopped obsessing once I started weighing daily. And I figure it's good practice for maintenance. If I weigh daily, I can't have a free-for-all the day before I weigh in and "skip just this once". Skipping just once becomes twice, three times, and then I'm off plan for three years with an additional 20 pounds.
  • I weigh myself every morning, but my trick is, I only record in my journal when the weight is down. In my logical brain, I know that my weight fluctuates for many different reasons, so when it is up 3 lbs when I know darn well I have only had my allotted 1400 calories in the last 24 hours, I shrug it off. Of course, the passionate, drama-queen side of my brain goes all a-dither and swooney hence the reason I don't write it down.
  • it is so interesting to get different peoples perspectives on this. I have only weighed once since I posted this and am only going to try and weigh once a week. I will see how I do over this next week then decide.
  • I dont own a scale..I know I would become obsessed with it!!! I have to go to the doctors every few months right now because of health stuff going on that is when I weigh.

We also have one at work that I can use if I really want to..BUT I don't!
  • I weigh 3 or 4 times a day, but like someone else above said, you have to keep in mind that fluctuations will happen and that's ok. I'm comfortable with it, and that's all that matters!
