Best choice at a Mexican restaurant?

  • I'm having a girls night out tonight at a Mexican restaurant. What is the best menu choice for me? Fajitas without the tortillas? Bare chicken tacos?

I'm nervous that if I don't go in with a plan I'm going to over-do it. What would you order. It's going to be tough, but NO margaritas for me I will have 2 or 3 mixed drinks though. Also scared about the chips and salsa... that is my favorite!
  • I'd go with fajitas-no flour tortillas. Corn should be ok. And eat your chips and salsa, just watch your portions! Get 15 tortilla chips and eat only those-and pile on the salsa!!!!!
I'm a huge mexican food addict, and I live in a Mexico border town! I gained 20lbs when I first moved here, so I feel your pain!
  • You could also try a taco salad with chicken or shrimp, but avoid the shell (I think that's where most of the calories come from) and ask for the dressing, etc. on the side. Of course, not everyone considers a taco salad to be Mexican food (or even Mexican-American food!), so your mileage may vary :-)
  • Thanks for the great suggestions! I ended up having 10 chips and salsa, and ordered two tacos a la carte minus the cheese and sour cream.
  • Sounds good to me! And now my stomach is growling
  • That sounds yummy!!

I'm so glad you posted this, my mom is coming to visit next week and I know we'll go to her favorite restaurant here in town at least twice. Not that I'm complaining, I love Mexican food.... just need to remember to avoid the bad stuff!
  • I'm impressed with your limited tortilla chip consumption. I always make my partner move the basked FAR away from me because I just snork down chips like no one's business (they're such a perfect carrier for salsa, lol).
