I guess I've just got to be patient...

  • This past week I was going mad because the scale was stuck at 167. Granted, I've only been on my diet for three weeks and I've already lost about ten pounds. But I wanted *constant* weight loss -- not just little spurts here and there. I was being totally absurd and almost gave up on my diet out of sheer frustration. I imagined that despite sticking to 1,200 calories during the day, whole fried chickens and apple pies were someone finding their way into my mouth while I slept -- I just couldn't understand why the scale was stuck despite my being absolutely angelic dietwise. But today I weighed myself and the scale read a delightful 165.

Lesson learned: Be patient and continue to follow the diet, despite not losing a pound or two every day (which is impossible anyway). Oh, and I shouldn't weigh myself every single day -- it's just too maddening!
  • Patience is a virtue I must strive for as well. I had a weight loss stoppage a few weeks back and a modest gain this morning (.2#) Both events could not be traced to too many calories. I getting into the home stretch of last 10 # and I will need to remain calm.
  • Yes, I briefly gained too while I was waiting to go down on the scale -- I went from 167 to 168 for a day. Then I dropped down to 165! Very odd.

Do stay strong! Especially if you're in the home stretch... Congrats on your weight loss!
  • I lost 12 lbs in a week, then yesterday I bounced back up 2 lbs. Today I am only down 0.2, so still up 1.8 from my lowest. It is annoying, but I know that little ups and downs are normal and I just have to keep plugging away at it. Usually for me I will bounce up and down for a few days, then get a "whoosh" of a couple lbs that stay off. Then lather, rinse, repeat for the next few pounds!

It is truly maddening, but once you start noticing your body's patterns you can recognize them. Oh, ok, I've been here before...in a few days this will be over and I will be down. Granted, of course, that you are staying on plan during that time
