  • Hello everyone, I wanted to know if any of you guys know a way to get rid of water retention. I drink at least 3 liters of water a day even more and I tried to flush myself out with drinking more water and all it did was make me even more bloated, I feel like a water ballon ready to pop.. I always have this problem with TOM I retain so much water it's crazy.. I stay away from salt and anything that will retain water.. any advice out there..

also I looked in the FAQs, but how can I get the little weight ticker and may progress on my posts..

    Thanks
  • Hey! You need 30 posts and 30 days, and then you can go and set up your tracker.

Don't overdo the water. 2 liters a day is just fine. It's normal for hormones to cause more water retention during TOM. If you are having swelling in your legs and hands, then you should see your doctor or other health care provider.

Water isn't the problem, fat is. Just realize that water will cause weight fluctutations and concentrate on your food and exercise plan.

  • Thanks Jay.. my hands and feet are swollen I just feel like a water ballon and didn't know if there was something I could do to get rid of the water. I walk 3miles everyday and stay active and I stay on my food plan and I write down everything I eat even if it's a piece of sugarless gum. Actually I've don't weigh myself around TOM because I gain around 5 pounds of water each month or more 1 month was a 7 pounds of water.. maybe I'll drink some green tea..
  • If your hands and feet are swollen you should see a doctor- I don't think that's normal. Do you have any pain?
  • I too retain a ton of water around that time. Youe salting your food but hav may not b e you checked the amount of sodium in all the foods you eat. There is salt in prepackaged things that we are not aware of unless you are reading the lable. Try eating Pineaple, although higher in sugar and calories it will help flush the water from your body. If you find that you have pillsbury dough boy syndrome, puch your skin on hands and feet with your finger if it does not bounce back right away and leaves a white mark you should really consult a doctor.
  • No I don't have any swelling at all. I'll try the pineapple and see if it works..
  • Just make sure you are drinking enough water.
  • I dirnk over 3 liters of water a day so I drink plenty. I guess it's just something I have to deal with when I'm on TOM..
  • Even if you arent adding alot of extra salt, there is so much hidden salt in foods that may be adding to your bloat, try to eat very clean for a few days,no processed stuff and see if that helps. Green Tea helps me for bloat as well.
  • If I'm retaining water, my fingers always swell. That's how I know whether or not I need to drink more water. That's just me though
  • I agree about the sodium in processed foods - it is ridiculously high. My husband is all blown up from it, so I have been limiting his sodium for the last few days. He loves processed foods - I don't eat processed foods for that very reason the sodium and chemicals. UGH.

  • I don't eat too many processed foods at all. I only get the deli ham from time to time which I know has salt in it but besides that I prepare all my food and I don't use salt.
  • Many years ago, a wise WW person told me that there are certain foods that will cause you to retain water. Among them are tuna fish and strawberries. At the time I was in college and lived on tuna. After cutting back I felt better. Just a thought...
  • I've never heard of strawberries causing water retention.
  • I'm surprised that strawberries would cause water retention. I don't eat them often but it's surprising. Tea is a diuretic so try drinking more tea as well as more water.
