Books plans >??

  • I am moving toward a no sugar low glycemic, low carb, low fat diet but am having trouble finding books.

Any recommended or favorites out there?
  • The South Beach Diet and The Insulin Resistance Diet are my two favorites.
  • I have the South Beach Diet and can apply the basic principles although the
food list and recipes are not realistic for me. (Same with Atkins)

The 'Insulin Resistance' I just found at Powells !! Thanks
  • Hi Pearl . . . . . . so glad to have you joining us.

Have a look this thread . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147099 . . . and the one that it refers to for a few more suggestions.

Sugar Busters is still one of the best of the genre (IMHO) and it is certainly one of the first of the GI/GL related plans.

BTW, South Beach, which is, of course, the most popular plan of this type right now, does have it's own separate forum and you might want to take a look in there as well.
  • I have a lot of difficulty with both South Beach and Atkins. I have lost weight on both but they are not sustainable in the long term.
So far I have picked through what fits my lifestyle and where I live and it seems to
be a combo oif the Sugar busters and low carb.... hence here I am.

I am just winging it off website info and have lost 5 lbs this past 10 days !! so it is working.
  • PS I also just picked up "The New Glucose Revolution" and the shopping gide from Powells. I look forward to receiving both.
  • Hello
Hello Pearl. I'm a Sugarbuster gal. This April will be my seventh year anniversary I think. I was able to lose and maintain an 80 pound loss for over 4 until I lost my mind and went off plan for a couple of years. I'm on my way back. Good luck with which ever plan works best for you. Be encouraged and know you are worth it.

    God bless,
    Crystle
  • the Specific Carbohydrate Diet is one you might want to look into.
there is a web site as well as a book.
  • Hi Sugar Busters,
Just had some time to pop in and say hi!

I am doing my cleasing for colonoscopy tomorrow and everything I am drinking is starting to taste the same I had a lot of plum tomatoes that were going to go to waste, so I chopped them in my small crockpot and they are cooking for tomatoe sauce, boy did I want to just take a bit..and the food commercials on TV are driving me crazy.

It has helped me to really think about my binges I have been on and why I just can't be thankful and appreciate the good foods I can have and enjoy them. Hopefully this will help be get back on track and try some low GI receipes.

Hi to Pearl, I am new here and no sugar busters is good. I got the Rick Gallop GI diet 13 week plan and his Guide to shopping and eating out. That book puts foods as green (low GI) yellow (medium GI) and Red (high GI) It is very easy to follow. The 13 week book includes recipes and a monthly plan showing all the recipes available.

Crystle: You go girl, that is really good and such an inspiration.

Talitha: thnking of you and have a good week. Eden will be here when she is ready. I know that doesn't help when you are late, both my children were 10 month babies. I had so much stress with my first that I developed preclamcia....so for the 2nd I just waited. Take care of yourself. I saw your post about following the sugar busters, but don't know enough to help you.

Hi to everyone and thanks for being here for each other

Check in again in a while. Sue ; - )
  • PEARL: Sugarbusters is what I follow, with a few moderations. It is based on Michel Montignac's Eat Yourself Slim. EYS is hard to find but a really good book to read if you do. My doctor recommended Sugarbusters years ago, and I have followed it for probably 8 years now. It is a plan you can stick to and live with long term.
  • "a plan you can stick to and live with long term."
THAT is what I am looking for! A change in eating for life.
So far so good, even though I am just going off info from the web.
It seems to be quite basic and allows me to eat those things that I like and are easily available here in the boonies without breaking the budget$$.
  • I do a mix of things....but they are working wonderfully for me this time.

I follow atkins for the first 2 weeks...
then I switched to weight watchers but still kept my food low carb. The weight watchers helps me adjust the fat intake. Then allows me to add yogurt or oatmeal if Im feeling like I want it.

Then.....the very best tool Ive invested in was The Beck Diet Solution (the first book and workbook) This book along with my diets of choice has helped me so much with the "head" stuff!!!!

Ive been following this since Dec 1st. With only one slip up at the beginning of january. It lasted only about 6 hrs, and I was able to get myself back on track with the help of Dr. Beck.
  • Hello Pearl, I read this book and at the moment the exact name eludes me, I think it's Hunger Free Forever and it's about the GL and about taking PGX supplements, am still getting used to the program, but hubby and I are adjusting well, I am also sticking to the No S principal, of no sugar, no seconds, he also has no snacks, but it was too hard just 3 meals with no snacking, we are allowed sweets on the days that start with S. I hope this helps. God Bless.
  • Hi,
I have the Rick Gallop = GI Index books. they are set up with low glyemic foods, green light. Medium GI yellow and High GI Red. The foods are listed under each listing. It is very easy to follow. His one book g.i.Diet Clinic has pattern meals to follow and at 13 week plan to follow. There is also g.i. Diet Express for busy people with 50 speedy recipes all by Rick Gallop. I ordered mine off of Amazon.

Now I have to keep at it and be consistant Have to get on an exercise regiment for more than 2 day then off again.

    Good Luck

    Sue
