  • I am 2 months postpartum. I was close to 300 lbs when I gave birth and thankfully I have lost all my pregnancy weight but seeing as I was about 250 when I got pregnant I still have a ways to go. I've been noticing that the skin over my lower abdomen doesn't have any feeling to it. I don't know if this is a result of my c-section or weighing so much while pregnant or what. It is not the whole area that is numb, I can poke the area and I can feel that but I could probably poke the skin with a pin in some spots and I wouldn't feel it. Does this sound really weird or what? I haven't seen the doctor since I figured this out so I haven't had the chance to ask about it. I think it is probably from the surgery but I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this or heard about it.
  • It is probably your nerves healing from being cut during your c-section. I had a c-section 3 years ago and I still have places along my skin that I can't feel or just tingles when I touch it.
  • Yep - probably the c-section. After a knee surgery, it took a whole year for me to get feeling back over my kneecap.
  • Probably the c-section. Prior to the last c-section, I had areas I couldn't feel from the previous c-section 4 years prior! I also have a large scar from an appendectomy 12 years ago that is still numb in spots.
  • It is so weird, I had none of this with my first c-section. It is freaky to be seeing myself poking my skin but not feeling it.
  • I can't stand to touch my scars - it's like touching dead skin or somthing - CREEPY!
  • I'm the same way as everyone else. It's been almost 2 years since I had my son and I can't feel some parts of my stomach near the c-section area.
  • 4 months post C for me, same numb area - the area about 2-3 inches above the scar. ClydeCat's description of it as 'dead skin' is creepily accurate.
  • Quote: I can't stand to touch my scars - it's like touching dead skin or somthing - CREEPY!

I thought I was the only one who feels this way. I can't even touch my belly button for that reason... *shudder*
  • I had my gallbladder removed about twenty years ago, the old fashioned way with the big incision. The skin underneath the scar is still numb ...
  • yeah, I'm about 10 years post hysterectomy and I've never gotten total feeling back near my incision. It's weird, isn't it?
  • The numbness can be from the damaged nerves from your c-section healing. It can take up to a year or longer (this is what happened to my friend).

For myself, when I was pregnant with my son - he sat against some nerve that made the top right part of my thigh numb to the touch... it didn't go away for about 4 months afterwards. Of course I was 270 at the time of his birth, so the weight combined with the pressure of my little guy sitting against some nerve.

If you are concerned - a doctors visit can always help

    Congrats!
  • I didn't have issues with this after my c section, but my friend just had a tummy tuck about 6 months ago and has alot of numbness in her lower abdomen. I think its a common side effect

I had this with each of my three pregnances: numbness in right thigh, then pain shooting down my leg from pressure on the femoral nerve. Very painful.
  • I've had 3 c-sections and where the incision is...it's numb and so weird to touch! lol I think it's just permanent nerve damage at the surface. My youngest is 2 so it's not something that goes away.
