Sodium Question!

  • Gah!! I just came back from my little daily workout and tucked into and apple and a little Eat Right Miso Soup from Safeway. I just read the nutritional information and it has bloody 600mg of sodium in it.
How crazy is that? I have no idea what a person's intake should be first off and secondly...how did I not read the whole label? Silly gal.
Anyone have any idea what a person should be getting for sodium in a day?
I think I'm eating sodium for four here.
  • Isn't it like, 2200 mg a day?
  • I think the RDA is 2,400 milligrams - it sound like a lot but it really isn't, especially when one realizes that even fruit and veggies (in raw state) contain plenty of sodium. For example, I think that I remember correctly that 1 cup of watermelon has 120 milligrams of sodium.
  • US RDA is, I believe, around 2400..but most health experts think this should be lower, more like 1600-1800 a day. Still 600 won't kill you for lunch--just watch what you have the rest of the day.
  • Thanks ladies!
  • Miso is like soy sauce, high in sodium, and even a reduced version isn't going to be terribly low.
