  • Hi gang :
Let's have some fun. Let us see what food/foods totally gross us out either by looks, taste, smell..........

I will start : eggs ( most especially hard boiled and soft boiled ones )
anything slimy, so that means clams or okra.

Fish. ( hate the smell )

    liver.
    zucchini.

  • I'm with you on the slimy - oysters and clams especially raw (shudder)
  • Yep, oysters and clams for me as well, as well as squid. I love eggs normally, but every couple of years or so I'll go through a spell where even the thought of them makes me sick. No idea why it happens.
  • Wet bread. Seriously - It's everywhere! Under a steak sandwich, in a bowl of French onion soup, Gark! It's so MUCKY!!
Crackers in soup (I can dip them in, but have to eat them quickly, lest they dampen), toast in tea, cold cereal that has sat around for more than 4 minutes. "Ack! Leave me alone! Can't you see, I'm eating CEREAL!! What if it gets SOGGY!! Ah, too late, here you eat this."
The only thing I'll partake of is stuffing, and only if it's a little dry. Hmm. I'm a little weird. That was a really good question!
  • I always thought stuffing was gross although I love crackers in my soup.

I also agree with slimy stuff.

Boiled spinach is gross (although sauteed/fresh is good)

  • I laughed at some of your descriptions !!! Glad about the slime, so not only me then !!

I can understand the soggy thing Ko !!!

Even before I turned veggie, I never ate any organ meats, so stuff like liver, kidney, tripe never appealed.

Hope there are a lot of posts to this, I find it interesting to see what people like and what they can not bear.

  • FairyVickie, I second you on hard-boiled eggs. Ick! And fried, and poached. I used to like soft-boiled eggs when I was little but not any longer. Just don't like the mouthfeel of the solidified white. I may be developing a taste for scrambled eggs though

Fish is ok (as long as it doesn't have the head on it ), and lobster, but shrimp is beyond the pale for me. Oysters, clams and other shellfish are no-nos in our house (my mom can't eat them, they make her sick), so I've never developed the taste. The exception to the fish rule is lutefisk, which is big here in Minnesota in the winter, but I'm not Scandinavian and the couple of times I've tried it the only impression I got was that it looked like a chunk of brain tissue floating in butter sauce and tasted like a sponge marinated in slightly fish-flavored dishwater (if you're Scandinavian, your mileage will definitely vary)

  • My Dad eats Egg Beaters every single morning !! sigh ! I do not know what it is but the smell of them makes me violently ill. I shut the door to block it, and have even had to burn incense, but of course he fusses me out for 'polluting' the air !!! A girl just can't win !!!

Hope I am not offending any egg lovers here !!
  • Umm cottage cheese! GROSS the texture and the smell are just horrible. Lima beans and bananas too. Lima beans jsut have a gross taste and texture and bananas... they are stingy and always steal the limelight of the other fruits. EG: You get a strawberry and banana smoothie. Well its red, and i saw them add the strawberries but WHY can i only taste these darned bananas!
  • I would agree with cottage cheese and also fish. I always hated the smell/taste of fish and I was glad when I gave up trying to like it.

I do like Lima beans though, we got some fresh ones from our CSA and they were soo good.
  • Yeah, see what you mean, Candy about the Limas, never been much of a fan myself. They are kind of strange !!

But I love bananas !! I just limit them due to my diabetes. the strings on the side are a bit annoying, so know what you mean.

I don't get all this cottage cheese hate: it depends on the cottage cheese: here in Minnesota I think Land'o Lakes 1% is the ambrosia of the gods. The only trouble is I'm trying to cut back on my sodium intake, and even the ccs that taste like wallpaper paste are still pretty high in sodium. On my last trip to Whole Foods I got Friendship 1% no salt added: on my first tentative taste it tastes like *low-sodium* wallpaper paste!

    Bananas YUM!
  • low sodium wallpaper paste ??????? lol
  • I hate goat cheese, boiled chicken, most meats...especially ground or on the bone. ICK! I should be a vegetarian by now. I also hate peas...
  • Frozen green beans. The texture makes me gag. I guess it is because they are blanched. I do love fresh green beans though.
