Lifting Routine? -Help!-

  • Currently, I have been working out 3-4 times a week doing cardio at my local gym. It is a fairly large gym but has mostly "bodybuilder" type guys that workout there. They have a variety of machines as well as free weights.

I'd love to start lifting some weights but I have no idea which exercises to do.

Does anyone have a lifting plan that would be good for a beginner?? I want to all over tone my body as well as lose an additional 20-30 pounds.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you
  • I felt similarly intimidated and found it helpful to get a trainer to help. You don't just want to know what exercises to do, but it really helps if you have good form and do them properly. Trainers can also talk a lot about your goals and should tailor a progam for you.

Most gyms have some kind of free orientation to the equipment, so at the very least you could do that. Again, make sure you learn to do the exercises properly.
  • Krista Smash has a great site
  • How much time do you have a week to devote to strength training? If you have 2 hours or less, it might be good to look into some combination moves to work arms/legs/abs at once.

If you have more time, divide into more focused sessions of Upper body/abs and lower body/abs.

I second, third, and fourth getting a trainer, if you can, because it was so helpful to learn how to do things properly. My trainer made me a great program that I've since been able to do by myself, so even a few sessions can make a big difference.
  • Thank you!! =)
  • I'll fifth getting a trainer. I was intimidated and uncertain of what to do, so my husband gave me 6 personal training sessions for my birthday. I've only done 3 so far, and it has made the hugest difference! I feel like She-Ra when I go over on that side of the gym now. Those big boys don't scare me. LOL
  • Completely off topic - Mandalinn that's a gorgeous new picture! You look terrific.
