Superbowl! OMG. The town is going crazy. It was actually kind of anticlimactic since the game against the Patriots was so down-to-the-wire exciting, and this time we ("we" = "the Colts") were ahead for most of the game. Apparently the Colts do better when they get walloped in the first quarter. The funniest thing is that the Indianapolis public schools are canceled today because too many bus drivers called in "sick!"
I ate a lot of junk. But! It was planned junk, at least somewhat. We skipped our cheat meal and had some extra low-cal days in preparation. I made brownies (a Martha Stewart recipe, many more calories than Cooking Light but delicious) and an Irish Cream bundt cake, plus someone else brought cupcakes (they said "Go Colts" in blue M&M's!). I had one cupcake, about four brownies (we cut them to about 2 inches by 1 inch), and one slice of cake, plus whatever I ate licking the bowls after putting them in the oven.

And a burger melt on sourdough. And some chips and dip. But I also ate a nice big salad and most of my "appetizers" were veggies and hummus.
But the good news is we managed to escape my future in-laws' house leaving all the leftovers there. Phew! What a relief. We are planning to hit the gym every day starting this week instead of just 3x/week. What I *didn't* plan for is that everyone else has brought their junk food leftovers in to work, and there is a big tray of cupcakes and marshmallow fudge brownies sitting around. I think I can resist this time!
Lily, I use the food pyramid as the base for my calorie counting. I have never been on a low-carb diet, I instead usually go low-fat since it is easier to cut more calories that way. According to the USDA 49% carbs is just fine.
It's freezing here too -- it was -5 when we left this morning, not counting wind chill. Ugh! I am now sitting at my desk at work, wearing long underwear (pants and a shirt), my jeans, and two sweaters, and drinking a big mug of herbal tea. I even ordered a pair of fingerless gloves that have heating pads, and you plug them into the USB port of your computer for power! The worst part about the cold is that I am spending so much time near heaters (and not near humidifiers) that my lips are super chapped and my nose has gotten so dry that it's bleeding. A combo of being on nasal allergy medicine for a long time and the dry air of the heaters is not a good thing -- I laid off the medicine and have been squirting saline up my nose multiple times a day.
We went to the new gym on Friday. It was really nice! I just wish they had towel service, since it's kind of annoying to bring my own and then take a wet towel home after showering. Other than that it was great. I did a ten minute warmup on the treadmill from 2.5-4.0 mph, then used the "total body crossramp" for 30 minutes (resistance set mostly around 4-6) plus a 5 minute cool-down. I added in crunches with a medicine ball for added weight and some lower back work.
Since we're planning on going every day instead of just MWF, I'm planning on mostly cardio MWF and strengthening TTh. Once my arm is out of a splint I'll be trying out the group classes too. I think the knee problems I was having were at least somewhat related to not having enough arch support in my shoes. I've been wearing sneakers every day and they are feeling better.
