Walking Challenge - for Lord of the Rings Fans - 3 Fat Chicks on a Diet Weight Loss Community

I just found a fun walking challenge for 'Lord of the Rings' fans. Yes, you too can walk to Rivendell and beyond! (I'm not being sarcastic, either

)

I found it on 'The One Ring' forums where I've been a few years, and spotted the thread but never really looked at it. They seem to have found it here:

Basically, you log all the miles you walk/run/swim whatever, and the site calculates how far you are on Frodo's journey across Middle-earth to Mordor. The first major staging post is Rivendell. I think I can make that in 5 months or so, walking most days... I think I walked/ran around 1800 miles in the last 18 months, but I'm starting from zero, so today I started from The Shire!

Sorry but I'm a hopeless LOTR nerd, and this gives me impetus to get walking again!

I've never seen or read Lord of the Rings - good luck with your journey, how long was Frodo's journey? Sounds like it's going to be a long one

PhatPhoenix - what a lovely motivational thing to find. I don't know anything about LOTR so I can't join you on your journey - I read the Hobbit and then moved on to LOTR and couldn't get involved in it. (You know - when a book is still just words on a page instead of getting 'real'.)

Hmmm - must look around for something like that for me.

PhatPhoenix, that sounds interesting. My daughter loves LOTR and watches the movies again and again, she's read all the books as well. Maybe I'll check the website with her and she can track the walking, she knows it better than me, every time she has the movies on, I seem to pass through and watch the same bit. Must take the time to just sit and watch them one day.

I've got 7.5 miles (No miles today as I was at a seminar all day). Apparently, I'm still within sight of the lights of Hobbiton, but when I round the next hill, I won't see it again! Daunting!

Them little hobbits walked 18 miles on their first evening, apparently... At this rate I'll be 90 when I get to Rivendell! Great fun, though and what a motivator!
