Default Hello, new here, doing "Overcoming Overeating" approach

Hi there,

I've been trying the "overcoming overeating" approach for about a year now. I'm looking for people who know what that is. I go to a counselor who I though understood what I was talking about, but instead she just keeps pushing food journals and keeping certain foods out of the house.

I've tried all that! And I kept getting fatter!

Anyway, I think I am going to make today's visit to my counselor the final visit.

So anyone reading Geneen Roth, or the other similar books, I'm looking for you to share experiences!

I am a HUGE fan of Geneen Roth, have read "Overcoming Overeating" and "When Women Stop Hating Their Bodies" (even met the authors on a book tour) and I'm a fellow Texan (well, not a native but have been here 20 years). I am currently rereading several of Geneen's books and I find them so full of wisdom, compassion and inspiration. I too find it hard when people talk about restricting certain foods, or "good" and "bad" foods, etc. I'm following her guidelines (mostly) and have lost 60 lbs.

There is an "Intuitive Eating" thread here that I followed for awhile but found it wasn't close enough to the approach I was using. I would LOVE to have a thread/forum devoted to Geneen Roth and "Overcoming Overeating."

Very excited to see your post!! Count me in!! WELCOME!

Breaking Free, What do you mean when you say that IE wasn't close enough to the approach you are following? It is now called Intuitive Eating #2 and I am still enjoying it. We have been missing you.

Hello and Welcome!

People may say "your crazy" when I say this.. but I have a hypnosis CD that I use whenever I feel like I'm falling off program. I have seen a difference in the way I eat. I've become more concious about what I eat. I've lost 15.5lbs since listening to it 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for the welcome. I am going to go look for the intuitive eating thread.

In Overcoming Overeating, it is stressed that we should get rid of our scales. I don't know how much I weigh, and I don't plan to find out. When I go to the dr I tell them I don't want to know and I stand on the scale backwards.

I wouldn't mind a hypnosis CD, can you tell me about that? Does it go with these books?
