Default Early morning visitor

At 5AM this morning, my DH got up to let my labrador out to the bathroom. He came back to bed and snuggled up to me. I'm thinking, OMG did he (DH) forget to wipe his butt .It took a couple minutes to recognize the smell of skunk. Apparently there was a skunk on the deck that sprayed when he opened the door and the scent got on him. He bathed with lots of tomato juice before getting ready for work. I told him what my original thought was and he laughed hysterically. He told everyone at his work and they all got a good laugh out of it. ROFL. The funniest part was it missed the dog.

Oh Lilly, I was so worried that the early-morning visitor was going to be the crazy neighbor. *Whew* I'm glad it was just a skunk.

Do you guys wipe your dog's behind when you take him out??

Sorry, I'll clarify. I thought DH had went to bathroom and didn't wipe his own behind. LOL. (which of course he's never done).

"just a skunk"!!! Wow, that happened to my dog and one of my cats a few years ago and it was days before the stink was eradicated. The skunk sprayed toward the door when I was letting the dog out, and it got into our house enough to stink up a lot of things in the mudroom. One of the things that somehow was hardest hit (other than the 2 pets) was my daughter's backpack. She made quite a hit at school that day.

Good luck getting rid of the smell!

When I was in 7th grade, a skunk sprayed our dog right outside of a heating vent. Let me tell you, that dog got sprayed so well that his white chest fur was -yellow-, and it all went in through the heating vent, distributing over the ENTIRE HOUSE.

And at least they let your daughter stay at school. By far the most embarrassing moment of my childhood was when I got sent home from school in the 7th grade because "the skunk smell is distracting the other students". It got into ALL of our laundry, ALL of our stuff. HORRIBLE and embarrassing, especially when you're at the awkward middle-school age.

There is a miracle solution called "Nature's Cure" or "Natures Miracle" or something like that...tomato juice didn't help, but we had to shampoo the carpets and wash ALL of our clothes in it, and the smell finally went away.

Sorry to laugh at your expense...but that was just way too funny the way you phrased it...

Does tomato juice really work? I've never heard of the other remedies that Mandalinn mentioned either.

That's a funny story. I, too, thought it was your neighbor.

Yeah, she was in M.S. too. People kept informing her that she stank. Good thing she has a sense of humor.

The tomato juice thing apparently works for some people, but I didn't find it helpful. I used the tried and true recipe that gets passed around the dog lists. It has hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish detergent in it. If anyone wants the recipe I'll post it.
