Default Kcal vs calories

OK. I'm stupid. I don't know the difference and for some reason the people that employ me want me to work today, so I can't surf the site to see if this has been answered.

Multiply kilojoules with 0,239 to get the calorie amount. Essentially they are measures of the same things - energy

kcal is actually 1000 calories.

However, when most people talk about "calories" they mean kcal (kilocalories).

1 kilocalorie is the energy required to heat 1 cubic centimeter of water by 1 degree. (I think...)

But for non-scientific purposes, ie dieting purposes kcal and calories are the same thing!

kj are kilojoules... which is a different measure, and I think Australians measure kilojoules rather than calories But both are usually available on nutritional information.

Default Thank you

I was going to start using FitDay and it asked for Kcal in the nutrition information. I wasn't sure if it was the calories listed or the calories from fat.

Again, thanks.
