The first time I try a new fish, I try to cook it as plainly as possible. That way I kinda get a feel for it ... the next time I try to spice it up some.
Tilapia is delicious! It doesn't have a real "fishy" flavor. It is declicious as Monet said, just sauteed in olive oil. I also bake mine by dipping them in water and then in a mixture of italian bread crumbs and about 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese.
I sautee it with a spray of olive oil, and use any sort of seasoning I have. It has almost no fish taste and takes on the taste of whatever you use. Some of my favorite toppings:
- Mango salsa
- quickly sauteed tomatoes and garlic
- rosemary
And the weirdest: when it's on sale, I cook a lot of it and use it to make chili instead of ground turkey breast.
I usually just saute it, too - I pat the filet dry, then dredge it *very* lightly in a little bit of seasoned flour, then saute in olive oil until it's golden. The little bit of flour gives a little bit of crunch to the fish, which is nice And I always squeeze fresh lemon over it before eating, too - yum!
Thank you for the suggestions I usually like my fish really simple and I love fish, so it is not a hardship to try a new one. I am excited to try it, probably tomorrow.
I took four sheets of heavy duty foil and placed the fish in the centers of each of the foils (one for each of us). I then spooned about a half a cup of crushed tomatoe (I used garlic onion flavored) and about 2 tablespoons each of chopped green pepper and onion. I sprinkled each with garlic powder salt and pepper, then I poured 2 tablespoons ofKraft Caesar Vinaigrette. Bring up foil sides. Double fold top and ends to seal each packet and placed on the grill for about 30 min on Med heat. It was out of this world.
You can also do the same in the oven or a nonstick pan
