Default Daily Wednesday August 29

Gorgeous morning after a whole day of wonderful rain! Have been for a walk down to the lake which was a good way to start the day.

Friday morning I will have my dog back for walking company. She and Simon are honeymooning until Thursday when I go to Syracuse Airport to pick her up - a three hour drive from here - one way - so I will be pretty pooped out on Friday.

Banking, a Doctor's appointment and then working a 4 PM Bingo today. I sure need a haircut - short hair sure gets shaggy fast - but Mr. Dan is booked solid with before school appointments.

I have to get my hands on 6 pies for the Church Chicken BBQ on Sunday so will be phoning around this morning or else doing them myself on Saturday. These have to be real homemade pies or there will be complaints and some of our parishioners don't cook that way.

Have been sticking to my low carb WW combo pretty well and have dropped another half pound today. I may have finally overcome the snacking habit - you know, the "just one" cracker habit? Maybe we should start up another Challenge or monthly weigh-in?

Gotta go get breakfast and read the other Boards. Have been here too long already this morning.

Have a super day!

Good Morning to you Ruth and all those to come.

Up early again this morning as my wee one decided to pay a visit at 6am. Not much on the agenda, just some laundry and some reassessment of my garden plans for the fall. Lots of work for me there but not for another month yet.

Welcome to all our new low carb friends, hope you find all the support and care that you need on these threads to help you through the finer points of low carbing!

Have been doing very well on my plan, had a lovely salad and steak with 2 bottles of water. I have increased my water intake and I have been taking my maternity vitamins to increase my folic acid levels. I am hoping for positive results this month ladies!

Take good care everyone-especially Peach and Jiff--my prayers are with you!

ROFLOL - Thanks, Pooky. Maybe for my Second Childhood? Or have I been there already? You know, sometimes I feel younger at 62 than I did at 42!

Default Mornin' ...

Well, it looks like I’m early today. Either that or everyone is cooling their heels after the whole “one thread, or two” discussion. I know that conversation is over, but I’d just like to chime in here: Being relatively new, I just want to say that I have not felt intimidated, alienated, or anything like it by the cohesiveness of this group. It’s clear that many of you have had a chance to get to know each other here, but the warmth and familiarity is not the least bit off-putting.

That said, I’d also like to say that I’m in the camp that thinks since this whole area of the board is for l/c support, having a “support thread” or even a “wagon thread” (which so far looks more like a bio thread!) is not entirely necessary. I like the chit-chat nature of the daily, and the fact that it recognizes we are all more than what we eat. But since I find I don’t have time to post a lot (not even “daily” sometimes”) I’d like not to have to edit out my l/c support thoughts from what I’d typically be posting here.

‘Nuf said.

I’ve got a bit more than 24 hours to go, and I’m nearly done painting my daughter’s room. With the second coat on all but one wall, I ran out of paint! Tonight a friend is coming over to help me move some stuff around an hold my hand while I put up some new wall sconces in my son’s room. My house is about 70 years old, and the bedrooms have wall fixtures – no overhead lights. I’m not afraid of electrical work – except in my own house where the wires are old, and have their original cloth insulation. Yikes! I have a vacation day from work tomorrow, which I took in anticipation of the kids coming home, but now I will need it to finish everything. Or almost everything.

Janice – the Mayo clinic diet? That’s not the cabbage soup one is it? I seem to remember it making the rounds in e-mail, but not much else about it.

Annie – 30 kids! Here (Providence, RI) the limit per classroom is 26, and I think that’s a lot! By the way, I also get up in the middle of the night when I can’t stop thinking about how much I have to do. Last year, I tried a meditative yoga class for flexibility and stress relief. I quit because couldn’t clear my mind! I was meditating on the grocery list!

Linda – where in Scotland are you going? I went in the late 80’s (part of one college summer floating around in Europe) and I loved it. I especially liked Glasgow, which is home to my favorite architect: Mackintosh. Can you stop here on your way and pull my weeds? I overhauled my small yard last year to make it easy to mow, and the areas I sectioned off for planting are weedy as all get out now because I didn’t keep after them. My poor long-suffering Sweetie has cleared one area 3 times now! I think I need to pave it.

McMom - -way to go at MickyD’s. Next time you’ll tell the Rocky Road to shut up! Glad you had a nice lunch – was it play date for your son or for you? ;-)

Ruth -- congratulations! I guess this means granddoggys, right?

Pooky -- not much on the agenda? You're done painting? I'm jealous!

Got to go, but I’m going to try to post a bio soon.

Barb

Default g'morning

It's a luscious morning here - the type where the sky is a brilliant blue and filled with wispy clouds? I'm glad the summer is almost over, and we're looking forward to Fall.

Things are going well in this area of NJ... it's amazing how when one area of your life (control of food) settles, the rest of life attempts to do the same. It's a wonderful feeling.

Hope all is well with all of you.

:::toasting with a glass of water::: To you!

You mean to tell me THAT sweet fluffy chicken purse is the one that has sent shivers up and down my spine????!!!!! Pooky You crack me up!!!!!

Ruth, good for you dropping that 1/2pound!!! Snacking? I know it well!

Bes, wiring makes me nervous!!!! A 70 year old house? I bet it is lovely!!! Did you get to painting ferns on your daughter's walls? When I started here it was the daily that roped me in. It was the idea of supporting one another in all ways, not just in our eating that attracted me. Losing weight, managing our weight has many facets to it and I for one am very grateful to have found this place. Nuff warm and fuzzies for one day!!!

My eating, like my sleeping has become irregular, but I seem to be maintaining (going after dottie's crown) I am eating protein, not too much of it tho, not enough veggies and a couple cookies in the evening. (who unleashed that cookie monster around here anyway!!!!)

Have a good one!

Talking Happy Hump Day Everyone!!

Another cooler and wet day in Houston. We're sure making up for the lack of rain since early June!

I spent the morning downtown with DS again! I'm so sick of court rooms. I had never been inside one until the past year and have definately gotten my fill of them! You sit, wait for 2-3 hours only to be reset again! But, we have to put this behind us before DS can go into the Coast Guard. Oh, for those of you who don't know....DS isn't an assasin or anything....just misdemeanor kid stupidity that gives mom ulcers!

Ruth~~does this mean that Hershey finally fell for her "suitor"? I used to make a mean lemon meringue pie...think I can get it to you in time?

Pooky~~love the chicken purse! But where's the metal beak that terrifies me? lol And Pooky, listen to an old mama here.....positive results are achieved thru lots of practice!!

Bes~~I bet your house is gorgeous! I love the older homes with the high ceilings and old woodworking! Anything electrical OR gas related is nothing I'll get close to! I won't even light the little oven in our camper! No, the Mayo Clinic Diet isn't a fad diet...the cabbage "E"! I got it too! As much as I love cabage, I just can't imagine!

Casey~~WTG! 17 days OP! I hope to be joining you in that 10 lbs gone forever before the end of September!

I'm rambling on, so if I've missed anyone....

The Mayo Clinic Diet (which is not affiliated with THE Mayo Clinic, I've been told) is a plan suggested by a friend who works at a hospital. He claims that this is an eating program they put heart patients on prior to surgery. It's basically extremely LC. You follow this strictly for two weeks and then off for two days. The following is briefly what you eat...
B-2 eggs/2 bacon - 1/2 grapefruit or 1 cup g.f. juice
L-Salad/meat-fixed anyway but with no breading-eat as much as you want until you are full-1/2 g.f. or 1 cup g.f. juice
D-meat/certain veggies-1/2 g.f. or 1 cup g.f. juice - eat until you are full

Water // Decaf Unsweetened Drinks

I did this about a year ago to jump start myself back into LC and I felt good, lost a few pounds but it helped me to stay OP when I went back to CAD. I guess I treated it as somewhat of a self imposed "induction" or cleansing.

I have to admit that since I know I'll be losing my RM for two weeks that I'm planning a not so good OP weekend!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Yucky & rainy here & I have the mood to match.

Ruth - Grandpuppies! I know you'll be glad to have Hershey back.

Pooky - Love the chicken purse!

bes - Hope you get all your decorating finished in time for the kiddos' arrival. I just love old houses; bet yours is lovely.

MamaJ - Good luck with your "detox". I'm going to try Stillman's for a while starting Monday or Tuesday. It's low carb, low calorie, low fat. No one (including myself) is going to want to be around me for a while, but if I can just get these last 28 lbs off by Halloween it will be worth it. I'm going to try Stillman's M-F & Atkins Sat & Sun.

Hi to Peach, Casey & all to come.

Jennifer

Greetings everybody. Nice to see the Daily is still here and full of the usual chit-chat I so adore.
Not too sure about that chicken purse. Too cute by far. Somehow I'd envisioned a much meaner looking chicken.
This morning I did very well at the pool. I managed three complete Olympic-sized lengths doing half crawl and half backstroke. Came home and died in front of the tv while watching Y&R then went grocery shopping. Why DO they design those huge supermarkets the way they do (aisles all slanting this way and that)? I feel as if I walked 10 miles which is not a bad thing I suppose.
On my way home I stopped at our local produce stand and picked up some wonderful Freestone Okanagan peaches to can. They should be ready by Friday. I sure love those ripe, juicy peaches and have to be very careful to limit myself to one a day. Daughter in Scotland has asked if I'd bring her some home canned peaches (can you believe it?) Those things weigh a TON but I will do my best. The things we do for our kids. I also have to bring some of my home made wild blackberry jam. Here I'd been hoping to get by with just carry-on luggage but I can see I'll be bringing a suitcase as well. Oh well, I can use the empty case to bring back lots of neat souvenirs from Scotland. That's what I did when we went to their wedding in Zimbabwe. I had one suitcase of clothes and two of wedding gifts which I filled for the trip home with lovely carvings and hand dyed cloth made by the native folks. By the way, Barb, daughter and SIL live in Edinburgh now. It will be my first visit to the British Isles and I'm so excited I can hardly stand myself.
Anyhow, after a quick lunch I fried up a chicken and have put it to chill in the fridge. DH prefers his fried chicken cold and I don't mind either way. We'll be having it with fresh from the garden green beans and I'm going to indulge in some locally grown peaches&cream corn on the cob with BUTTER. yum yum Probably throw my blood sugar totally out of whack but I will guzzle extra water and hope for the best.
Neighbor phoned this pm and asked if I'd like to go to Harrison Lake with her and a couple of elderly ladies she has visiting from New Zealand. SHe knows I've never been there so, even though I'd planned to go and pick blackberries tomorrow, I think I will change my mind and do the sight-seeing thing. It's about a two hour drive east and north of Vancouver and it's supposed to be lovely there.
Well, that's about it for me today, my friends. Big hugs to all of you, both newcomers and old timers. You're all terrific in my book.

Happy wednesday!

And happier still, DH is working late tonight, so I can just hang out on the computer without him in the other room, you know, just WAITING for dinner, or company. I love to hang out with him, but it's nice to be able to spend sometime on the computer without feeling guilty!

Oh, Pooky, that was too cute! Good luck in your endeavors! You are a trooper to get so focused on your "work!" I'm doing more water lately too, I think it helps me not snack!

Peach, I have lost the Queen of Maintenence crown, so please give it back when you're done! I have been up about 2-4 lbs, which I think are mostly gone, so I'm back at my

usual weight. But no matter what happens, I know that I feel crappy when i eat candy or white bread. I feel good when I eat salad and meat and veggies. I do OK with fruit, I think cause I don't like it enough to eat more than one or two pieces a day. So, it's a WOE, right? Ha, ha!

Hi Barb, lovehearing about your old house! I'm off to do a bio too. I'll be right behind you tomorrow!

Casey- I'm in Long Island, we had the same nice weather here today!

Hi,Janice, some girls here did Mayo last year, and I think it did just what you want- a jumpstart, and get rid of the cravings quick! Good luck. Are you starting Monday? Maybe I'll do it with you...maybe...ooh, I'm so weak! Saw you on the E-word thread, shake it, Mama!

Hi Jen,good luck, is Stillmans an older version of Atkins? It rings a bell, but I'm not sure?

HI LINDA ! and everyone else!
Linda, we were posting at the same time! Enjoy your dinner, it sounds great!
have a good night,
dottie
