Default Need support, Need a friend. Anyone out there?

Hey there, i posted a thread in the buddy section but i guess no one was interested. I think this is the right section for me anyway. Cause i am over 300 pounds. I'm angie, i live in philly, i'm 27. I joined weight watchers for the weekly support. I also joined Bally's Gym. I would really like to make some friends on here. I really don't have any who know what i'm going through. I have AIM and YahooIM angiepants78

If anyone lives in philly and would like to workout together or whatever that would be great too!

I really need support and modivation to get through this. I went to the pool today with my niece and felt so out of place. I wouldn't dare get into a swim suit. I don't even wear shorts so i'm just sitting there with pants and a t-shirt trying to look comfortable. I felt so sad. I'm here yet again. I keep making promises to myself to lose the weight so next summer i don't have to worry about what i look like in a swim suit, next summer is here and it's still the same. Blah! I'm trying to stay positive. I doing well with my eating so far and i hope to have a good weight loss next week. So IM me if anyone feels like chating or needs support or whatever

Hi Angie - I am 32 and from NY. Not really the same area as you, but not that far either. My parents met at grad school at the University of PA so I have been there several times. Congrats on joining a gym. I belong to one at my office which I love. I never would have thought it, but I have actually come to love exercise. I am on a hiatus right now because of a recent medical procedure, but I am itching to get back to it as soon as I can. I count calories and know almost nothing about weight watchers. I did it when I was young, but it has been a long time.

One thing that is so hard to do but I have found was very important for me was to approach this from a positive place in myself. All of the hating myself and thinking I was disgusting never got me anywhere. The negative motivation of my looks never worked for me. It was only through feeling positive about myself and what I could do rather than what was wrong with me that has allowed me to come as far as I have. If going to the pool makes you feel bad about yourself right now, then don't go - find something that makes you feel good about you. The more you do, the more fuel you will have to make positive changes in your life.

Defintely feel free to join us over in the numbered thread, but if you are looking for a buddy please feel free to PM me as well.

Hey, Angie! I'm in PA, too...but on the other end of the state. You made a great step by joining Bally's! I joined our local YMCA in May and although I have lots of exercise equiptment at home I don't use it, but I'm at the gym almost every day! Once I got over the initial intimidation (only 2 or 3 days), I was good to go. Are there personal trainers available to help you get started? Begin slow...stick to the treadmill for a while. You'll notice in 2 or 3 weeks that you don't get winded so quickly and can go a bit further and faster. It's a great feeling...especially compared to your first day! You can do this. I read what you mentioned about being by the pool and I can totally relate and hurt for you. Hang in there!!!

I read what Angie said too, I can totaly relate. I have sat by the pool many times and felt the same way. Don't give up, just keep trying. That is the only thing we can do. I know it is so hard. But sounds like you are headed int he right direction, so just keep up the good work..Just wanted to chim in on this thread, just looking for a new one to connect too. Hope maybe I can on this one.

Hello and welcome! This is a great place to find the support you need. Good step about joining the gym.

As for the pool... well I just got brave and "built" a "tankini" type swim suit out of biker shorts and tank top. AND I just go right out there and jump into that pool regardless of what others are thinking. I just read last night that over 60% of Americans get no exercise. I don't know how accurate that statistic is but I am sure it is a large number. I look at that at least I am out there TRYING regardless of what people are going to think. And I have to say that since I started doing lots of water aerobics I can really tell a difference in the way I am shaping up.

So hope others will be encouraged to just go do it too and just grit your teeth when you have to get in and out (which is the worst part and we can be seen the most) and remind themselves as I do that it is WORTH it and that at LEAST I am doing something about it!!

Hey Angie,

I totally hear you on the summer thing. Every summer when I am melting and hating being fat I promise myself that by the next summer I would be slimmer. But nope I have never done it. This is the year though, I am losing weight now and by next summer I WILL be much smaller!!

I am in the UK, but might just catch you online sometime so I will add you to my Yahoo buddy list. My name on there is ammiUK. Take care and keep up the great work with the weight loss

Hugs,

Ammi

Welcome Angie!

I am new here too and so far everyone here seems super nice and helpful. PM me if you need anything or just need to vent!

This is the first site I have been to where people are very welcoming to new people joining the group and that is what I need, especially at the beginning!

Hey Angie!
I'm a bit older than you, but sounds like we have a similar weight loss challenge, and I'm pretty new here too.
This place is great for support and motivation. Sounds like you're on the right track so far.

Keep it up! We're all pulling for you!
