Default problems getting enough water?

hi all as you know i'm doing a sports science course and in my studies i've come across some interesting things. by drinking water you actually shut down your thirst mechanism,

have you noticed that you can have a glass of water and not feel thirsty for a while but you can have a sports drink but be thirsty almost straight away and want to keep on drinking? well this is not a ploy to get you to spend more, its due to the mineral content and is to make it easier for you to reach full hydration.

so next time you find yourself looking at your water bottle thinking i know i should drink this but i'm not thirsty. you know why. also i found out. something that might be usefull its being suggested you shouldn't eat in the 45mins before exercise. this is due to the bodies insuline reaction, the bodies releases insulin to clean up excess blood sugar and takes it all. then your body drip feeds it into the blood to keep you going. however if you have an insulin surge just before exercising then your work out will be much harder.

now i think about it i always struggle if i've eaten just before training.

Well that would explain why I never feel like I'm putting my all into my workouts after I eat :P Which makes sense to me because I always do better on an empty stomach.

The water and power drink thing is interesthing although I never drink power drinks. Thanks for sharing this information!

The eating before a workout thing makes sense, in all my years of training I never ate at least 2 hours before exercise.. for some reason I still do this. My body preforms better with an empty stomach.. thought I was just strange because I see so many people who do eat before exercise... interesting.. thanks!

Thanks for the info Si. I'm another one that prefers exercise on an empty stomach. I need to have had something at least a couple of hours before though or I just don't have the energy to do it properly.

Same here, if I eat before I do workout, I pay for it during.

I am a diabetic, and have researched blood glucose levels extensively. The insulin does not 'take it all' from the blood stream. It moves it into the cells, where it can be used. The normal fasting blood glucose level is 80-90. After a meal it may go as high as 140 if you are normal. It may be that eating right before you workout pulls energy away for digestion, and makes it harder to workout. I seriously doubt if insulin levels will effect your energy levels. The food you eat is converted into glucose, and secreted by the pancreas into the blood stream as needed to maintain blood glucose levels.

I am one that needs to eat something before I exercise. Usually I eat a light meal 30 mins to an hour before I exercise. If I don't then I get dizzy and nauseous while I'm exercising. I believe it has to do with PCOS and not eating will drop my blood sugar too low.
