So I recently heard that if you do about 15 minutes cardio when you get up in the morning, you can increase the amount of calories you burn doing normal everyday stuff during the rest of the day. Has anyone heard anything about this?
I dont know but I learned a little tip in class at the beginning of the year. One of my lecturers specialized in spinal surgeries and he said exercising in the morning was a big cause of slipped discs and pinched nerves. He said you need to be up for about 30 min before you do any exercise. Discs are not as spongy when you first wake up so you need to give them time to hydrate and get themselves flexible for your exercise.
Any exercise you do, but especially weight training, will increase your base metabolic rate. It doesn't have to be morning exercise. Muscle is more metabolically active, so if you want to be burning calories whilst doing nothing, build some muscle, that'll make your cardio even more effective.
I thought it was just weight training too. What I remember reading is that with cardio you only burn calories while you're doing it but weight training you can raise your metabolism for up to 24 hours after you are finished. Not to mention the extra calories you will burn with the extra muscle too.
