Post Loose Change

Well, i had a small and odd NSV last night - but an NSV nonetheless. I had a 3 hour night class yesterday, and I go to a small school on a campus in the middle of nowhere, so there's nothing but a really nasty greasy little coffee shop that just sells burgers and pizzas, so I stay clear of that! Anyway, I am fully aware that I am a vending machine addict. I kid you not, it doesn't matter if I'm hungry, or even if I have food in my backpack - if there is a vending machine around, i will buy something. I usually make healthier choices - granola bars and crispy minis - but an extra 150 cal when you're not even hungry is still an extra 150 cal, regardless of where it comes from. So there I was, wandering toward the vending machine, jingling my loose change, knowing i was about to buy an evening snack... when i made a stop at the payphones and used up all my change calling my mom for support! I knew if I used up the change I wouldn't be able to buy anything (obviously), and my mom's losing weight right now, too, so she knows where I'm coming from. And yes, I am one of the 10 people left in the developed world without a cell phone. From now on, of course, I just need to leave the cash at home, but it felt so good to decide to do something good for myself instead of indulge in something counterproductive. Like I said, small and wierd, but i had to share it anyways.

I completely understand! My situation is a bit different, because I go to an urban college, full of Burger King and Chik-fil-A and yummy yummy diet busters. But I am in the same boat: when I walk past the cafeteria hall it seems like I have to stop in and get something! The only way I've found to steer clear is to just not bring any money or my debit card on campus (that way I can't cave and run to the atm ). Way to go on resisting the snax!

Good for you! I'd say thats far from a small NSV. You're gaining control over how you deal with food, and that is HUGE. Congrats.

That is excellent. Changing our behavior in small ways makes such a gigantic difference -- and knowing what behaviors you have to watch out for makes it that much easier to stop yourself ahead of time! Congratulations!

i think thats a great NSV!! shoot, i work next to a small food court, a baskin robbins, a robin hood (sandwhich place) and an anthonys pizza...the temptation is flippin killer! so you should totally be proud of yourself for calling your mom instead of getting something from a vending machine! keep goin chick!
