Default Grocery Shopping!

Hey all.. this is not a really BIG success but it is big for me...

Today when my dad brought me back to campus, we went grocery shopping and pretty much I got all healthy food. Most of it was fruits and veggies! I am proud of myself because I walked into the junk food aisle (chips, cookies, etc) and I resisted getting anything of that nature!!! I also wanted to cut out having juice on weekdays and leave that only for the weekends and I didnt get any juice or kool aid mix or anything! I am proud of myself and thought I'd share my first bit of success with you all! <--- oh yeah I got a lot of these too haha

It is a lot of fun to realize how many great choices are out there. I was starting to get stale and tired of food choices so I changed it up and went to a new store. This time I went to an organic food store. A little too pricey for a weekly habit unfortunately. My beef with the store is that just because it is natural foods doesn't mean that it is low cal/fat, etc. I found even though they didn't have as much junk food, they also didn't offer as many of the low cal/fat choices either. I was attracted to the prepared meats. I bought chicken with stuffing in it, hamburger meat with cheese and mushrooms in it, chicken fingers with parmesan cheese on it, and I accidentally bought buffalo meat instead of hamburger meat. Now I realize without nutrition labels, I probably killed my diet this week.

Being able to walk right past the junk food is a huge step - if you don't bring it home, you can't eat it! It's tempting the first few times, but then you get used to it - I always shop by the perimiter rule - almost all the stuff around the perimiter of the store is good for you - produce, dairy, meat (well, except for bacon, of course!), and most of what's in the aisles is processed and not so good for you, so I always do the perimeter first, then down the aisles I know have tuna and soup and stuff - and now I just avoid the junk food aisles altogether. Congrats on your willpower!

Intrigued - congrats!

It's become like second habit for me to walk past now. I just don't consider junk food to be food anymore...not by accident, but by choice.

congrats!!! that is a big step!! i also went shopping this weekend and was pretty proud that i shopped mostly around the perimeter also. i bought a few of my lean cruisine dinners that were on sale but i plan to make them last at least 2 weeks because i hope to have some of my healthy dinner to bring to work for lunch mostly.

i did buy a thing of sugar cookies for the kids and i had one too. but it's okay. one isn't going to hurt me. but i also bought the girls some baby carrots to snack on and some apples. so they get a little junk if they eat some healthy. it's a trade off....a balance.

I love Days but i don't have time to record and watch it anymore either. so i just read the daily recaps on the net. that is one of my goals is to look better when i go meet some of the cast again this year. this is their last year coming to an area near me and i want to look good this year when i go meet Bryan Dattilo again.

Since adopting this new, healthier lifestyle, I've rediscovered long avoided sections of the supermarket. Fruit? Vegetable? Wow! How did I walk past them for so long???

Congrats to you for finding them, too!

Yay, good for you and congratulations! Feels great, huh?

A couple weeks ago I went grocery shopping and as I was going out of the store with my cart I met my best friend coming in. LOL it was nice not to have to worry what she saw sticking out of my bags. Of course she would never be that nosy but she knows I am trying to get healthy... so I jokingly told her it was nice that I met her and was not ashamed of what was in my cart.

Deafinly, buffalo meat is actually really low in calories and fat and it tastes pretty good too. I have never found it at stores here but ordered a bison burger at a restaurant before. Enjoy it, it won't blow your diet!

My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy but I love checking out the grocery stores when we travel because you can find such interesting new stuff. I got some freshly ground honey roasted peanut butter in Lubbock this weekend. It's probably a good thing we don't have that in our town however because I would eat way too much of it!
