Default Proverbs 31 ... does it shed any light on women's health, fitness and weight loss?

Have you read it lately? What do you think?

I made a few little notes at 5:30 this morning! I was struck by how often this version used the word strength ... even says strong arms .... which makes me wonder because I would have assumed the 'strength' to mean a spiritual heart strength.

I'm still mulling over 'the bread of idleness' .... and ... 'she brings her food from afar'

Hi y'all !!! Thank you for the encouragement to read Proverbs. It has helped me to work harder on a commitment I made earlier this year-to read through the Bible in a year. I tend to put a lot of other things before God and I shouldn't. Also reading the other messages has helped me out a bunch. Tonight my husband and I found out that his oldest daughter is having some major marriage trouble. She is totally heartbroken. I have been there and I know what she is feeling. As a parent I want to take the pain away so she won't have to hurt. I know God heals in time it's just real hard to hear the pain in her voice. So could I ask y'all to pray for her and for my husband(Jim) and me, that we have the Godly words to say and the arms to hold her til the Lord heals her and hopefully her marriage.
I also want to say Thank You for accepting me so fully, I look forward to learning more about all of you. Well I need to go and finish my lesson for Sunday School. I just love the kids to pieces-- they are like sponges, soak up whatever we teach them. P.S. please pray for my dad, he goes in on wednesday for a heartcath test and he is terribly scared.

IN CHRIST,
MINDY

I'm ashamed to say how many times I've meant to do one of those Bible in a year things. What's really helpful to me is finding my oldest Bible and skimming through all the passages I thought enough of to under-line or circle at the time. Interesting.

Prayers for your troubled family members are a given! Have fun with your SS kids today!

Hi Everyone,

I've been busy lately, but just checked in to see how everyone was doing this Sunday evening.

I just read through Proverbs 31, and it was very inspiring. I paid paticular attention to the part about the wife. It seems to me that the Lord is giving us a lesson on how we should behave, and what our responsibilities are as a wife and mother. However, I do see some of the positive things he mentions about strength, good planning, attentiveness to our families, committment to her family, Spiritual committment, and dedication to doing for others and to herself she sees her worth, and gains "Strength " In that. I sort of feel the strength part may be a spiritual strength that we as women need to fulfill the Lords plans for us, and to be fulfilled within the life and roll God has given us. How do the rest of you feel? I no doubt think also that to do all that these verses mention a woman would have to " deligent" in her physical health as well. I high priority I think after ready this Chapter 31. I'd be interested to see how the rest of you feel.

Well that's my 2 cents for tonight, LOL. Have a great evening and I'll check in tomorrow to see what you thought.

God's Blessings........Carol

Oops! I also ment to include the "bread of idleness thought". I think it means that if we aren't doing all the things we are supose to do , whether it is weight loss, fitness, family things, jobs, then we are in trouble, becuae idleness is a tool of the devil. We no doubt would find something else to do that wouldn't bring spiritual growth or bring glory to God. Interesting thought to ponder. I will think on it more. Goodnight all.

What about bringing food from afar? or another version says she's like the merchant ships who bring food from afar.

Well, I wonder if perhaps it means she is faithful to what God has called her to do? The ships from afar maybe mean ....no matter what it takes she is there. The ships of old had to endure storms, pestilence, thiefs (pirates). But they made it through under strong oposition. What do you think?

Perhaps if we go along the dicipline of loosing weight we see storms of life come against, people come against us, and the enemy of our soul, satan, comes at us as well. Just a few thoughts for you to think about. I will study it out a little more tonight and see if I get anything else. I'll check in later.

It is really thought provoking, Carol, isn't it.
When I first became a Christian, I was already a wife and mother. I dwelled on this passage alot (the wife part). It sort of slipped out of my head for many years. Then the other day ... it just popped back in.
I really like the message board format for this kind of thing. We can mull it over ... post a thought ... read someone else's thoughts .... think some more .... this is good!
Thanks for being around!

Online, I found a quote from a magazine article by someone called Sue Becker who likens the 'bread of idleness' to processed foods. Intimating that we should be eating more whole foods.
If you put her name and 'bread of idleness' in a google search, you should be able to read the whole thing.

I'm often surprised by what I can't find in the Bible. "Idle hands are the devil's tools" for instance .... Point me at it, if you will.

References within Proverbs seem (to me) to point more toward the notion that idleness begets poverty, lack, hunger, leaking roofs .... more along the line of "the consequences of our actions".

Strength and honor.....very hard to find it sometimes in our daily lives. I'm trying to read more of the Bible these days, and to include God more in my life.

Bless you Athena! I really was just talkin' to myself these days.
Maybe my paltry little thread has given you a spark. I knew there was a reason HE had me thinking about this at 3:45 the other morning
