Default Question for WW Leader

When are meetings supposed to begin? As long as I've been a member, I was under the impression that meetings began at the posted time and weigh-in was 30 minutes prior to the start time. I even believe it says this on the signs on the doors and the ww website. I used to attend a meeting that I never stayed for because the posted time said 9:30. The doors opened at 9:00 for weigh in and I thought meetings would begin at 9:30. The meetings never began until 5-10 minutes before 10:00. I sent an email to WW of Philadelphia and I told them this and I told them how unmotivational I thought the leader was- he was very boring and he was overweight so I was wondering how he was a leader. Anyway, I don't think they appreciated my email. They told me that meetings don't start until 20 minutes after the posted start time. Who has that much time to spend at WW?

Default When does a meeting start?

At the W W meeting I attend, the doors are unlocked at 9 am. At 9:30 the leader starts the meeting with awards and shows new product finds. Generally about 9:50 she will start her topic for the day. And meeting is over at 10 am. From reading about boring leaders on other boards, the general suggestion is to ask the receptionist to give you the name of the Local Director. Call your local W W 800 and ask for the phone number of the local director by name. Then call and leave a message on her machine if she isn't there. Several leaders said all the local directors have they own phone numbers at the local W W office.

My understanding was the same as yours, and that's how my meetings work. The one I go to is listed at 5:30 pm, and they usually start the WI right around 5 pm. The leader is pretty good about beginning the actual meeting right at 5:30. Before that she is either helping out with weighing or getting new members registered. The meetings themselves last right around 1/2 hour, so we're out of there by 6 unless it's a "hot" topic with lots of input/questions (not often, frankly).

On the boring/unmotivational leader topic - good luck! It sounds like there are a lot of those out there. I have been to a number of different meetings and only found a few really good leaders, though I have several leader friends in different states who I know are good - I just don't live there! Right now I live in a small town and while there are 3 meetings between our town and the next (20-30 min drive), they are all run by the same leader! So no choice for me, sigh.

Default This is the email I got from wW

Can a leader please confirm this because it doesn't make sense to me. I think a meeting should start at the posted time.

A meeting that is scheduled for 9:30 A.M., should begin with the Lecture
approximately 15-20 minutes after that scheduled time. I am sorry that you
do not find the Leader motivating. I would suggest, if possible, to try and
go to another location where you may find it more to your liking. I would
be very happy to help you make another selection.
I will be giving a copy of your E-mail to the Manager so that she is aware
of your feelings. Thank you for contacting us.

Our schedules are posted with 2 columns--weigh-in time and meeting time. The weigh-in times starts 20 minutes before the actual meeting time. I imagine different regions have different time frames. I hope this helps.

Does this mean the leader will be able to identify the "complainant" and would that not make things uncomforatable for the future?

Meeting Times: It might very by region, the policies on this are all different. In Region 501 (most of the Northeast, including NY) the posted time is the time the meeting is scheduled to begin -- that is, the time the leader stands up in front of the room, welcomes everyone, and gets it going. The weigh in time is 30 minutes prior. So, for a 5:45 posted meeting, you are encouraged to come at 5:15 (and be finished weighing by 5:45) and make your purchases, chat with the leader about specific questions or concerns you may have, etc. and have that be the "social" time prior to the meeting. The idea behind this is to get individual attention if you need it, and to have everyone weighed in by the time the "yakking" and sharing starts... Hope this helps.

As you can see from the email, they don't expect the meetings to start at the posted time. Weigh in starts at 9 and they say the meeting doesn't have to start until 20 minutes after the posted time (which is 9:30). 9:30 is the meeting time and not the weigh in time so this definitely makes no sense to me.

Pretty,
In our area the all meeting start after a weigh in period of 30 minutes.metings are to start when posted EVEN if many members are still lined up..........30 minute weigh ins..30 minute meetings when possible.

Every once in a while we may start 5 minutes later............but try our best not to. We realize the value of members times...of course SOMETIMES many members dont come until the last minute............. If weigh in is from 9:30-10 am...why do some members come at 9:55? So it goes both ways! (weighs tee hee)

It may vary in other areas.

Hope this answers your question.

PS I recently got a copy of an evaluation form a mbr sent in that complained about our long lines.she suggested the receptionist (one of them) quit taking the money and start weighing sooner..we did and guess what? It works well..so we do value the opinions of our members!! We are open to suggestions..she also praised us for the things she liked about us which helped!

In my area, both times are posted. We have enough staff that the leader actually does start at the posted starting time.
Some members do not realize that the amount of staffing is based on the members who attended the previous week. So once in awhile we are caught short handed.
Most members come in in plenty of time, but then there are those who have to come in at the last minute so are still in line or being weighed once the meeting starts.
