Does anyone know which diet drinks affect blood sugar?

I like to have a diet mt. dew every so often, it's the only one that doesn't have a funny aftertaste to me. I don't want to drink it if will cause problems though

Thanks

Hi, I was just poking through the archives and I found one post/thread where Jenniffer mentioned that caffeine can provoke an insulin response (thus affecting blood sugar). I've never heard anything about that, but I just thought I'd let you know.

Does anyone else know how this works?

well, to my way of thinking, it is better to have diet drinks that are sugar-free rather than sugar-laden regular sodas. yes, the caffeine in cola can be linked to a dip in blood sugar, which causes a rise in hunger. BUT if you're a soda junkie, one or two diet sodas isn't going to hurt you much.

i know that "diet rite" cola was the on endorsed by atkins for being ok to consume while on the program. you might want to try it.

Default For me personally:

I am trying to avoid any items with nutrasweet/equal because it seems to initiate an "insulin hungries" episode. Splenda does not seem to have this effect so I tend to grab drinks with that instead like "diet rite" and "diet coke with splenda"

HTH

Hi,

I am hypoglycemic and cannot drink anything with caffine b/c that drops sugar rapidly!! Plus, fake sugar may still trick the body into releasing insulin!

Becarful!

Default IR and fake sugars

I am currently reading The Insulin Resistance Diet, and the authors of this book say that fake sugars like nutrasweet do not affect your blood sugar, but they will provoke an insulin response, as does caffeine. AAH, not my diet soda! Their suggestion is to eat something (especially something with protein) when you have fake sugars so the insulin has something to act on.

Smile Diet Soda = A wolf in sheeps clothing LOL

No soda is actually better or worse for someone with insulin resistance.
The best thing to drink is ,unfortunately for many people, -- WATER!
I drink a cup of hot lemon water in the a.m. which is to help to jump start your bodies functions...then it's water, water, water all day...although herbal tea is also good! Hot foods and drinks are actually better for women with PCOS...it helps in quicker digestion and other processes.

Diet Soda has a lot of negative products in it that women with PCOS should stay away from b/c of our sensitivity...however, it was recommended to me that occasionally if I was going to have soda, I should drink the real thing.

Congrats! on your weight loss so far!!
