Default Carb\Fiber confusion

My saurkraut label says 1 carb + 1 gram of fiber, does that mean that I really count it as 0 carbs?

that's debatable.

myself, I count EVERY carb, not just 'net' carbs. The atkins book explains it well and if you type in 'net carbs' in this forum you'll find some info.Total carbs includes fiber, sugar, starch, sugar alcohols, and anything else that's not fat or protein. Net carbs are those carbs which cause an increase in blood glucose or insulin. Fiber, sugar alcohols (for most people).

some people count total carbs, and others, who know their bodies well enough, count net carbs.

I hope I made sense

Thanks Lacey. I read sooooo much about LC before I started, Atkins, South Beach, tons of info about glycemic index, books and websites and research studies. It seemed so extreme that I really wanted to know everything I could before I decided if I wanted to do it. I think I need to go back and re-read the Diet Revolution this weekend, maybe that'll help get me squared away.

here is what I do....

veggie fibre and psyllium husk fibre I subtract from my carb total, everything else I count.

My protien/fibre shake is 7 carbs, but 5 of it is fibre from the psyllium...so I count it as a total of 2 carbs.

As for the bars that have sugar alcohols and whatnot, and they say net 3 carbs....NOT for me!! I dont eat them, because for me its like eating the entire 35 some carbs that are actually in there and Im stalled for days!

Atkins says to subtract all fibre from your carb count....well that works for some, but not for me. You will find your way as to what works for you and what doesnt.

Hope that helps

Yep I would count it as 0.... I mean how much sour kraut can you eat? LOL
Now plain cabbage on the other hand would have more.

Enjoy !!!

LOL Lennie! But that's 1 carb per 2 T serving, and since I'm working to stay under 20 for a few more weeks, it could actually be significant (especially at the end of the day). Boredom is the kiss of death for me w/eating, so I'm trying to spread out a little. I like pork chops w/kraut, although I admit that I missed the fried potatoes I would have had with it before.

I do wonder about the -ol's. I'm hope I'm one of the lucky ones that can eat them w/o consequences, but what do you suppose the chances of that are? LOL

Thank you for answering my newbie questions, I hope it's not too annoying
