Default Help!! Healthy Mexican Food Ideas

At work we go out for Mexican a lot since it is quick and close to my place of work. I normally get a cheese enchilada, taco, and devour the chips and salsa. Does anyone have any good "Healthy" ideas for Mexican......or is there such a thing????

tortilla soup is a good choice...fajitas can be good depending on how much oil they use. as far as the chips try picking out 10 chips (a serving) when they first bring the basket and putting them on a plate so when they are finished so are you. And load up on hot sauce and salsa because they are low cal and very yummy. Avoid sour cream and cheesy sauces. Good luck!

Good suggestions. Additionally, check ahead of time and scan the menu for other lower-fat and calorie controlled items (call ahead and ask or have them fax/email you a menu).

Try getting something with chicken. Lots of salsa and hot sauces and loads of veggies. Can call in advance and ask about the menu. Try to eat in moderation.

I ussually do a burrito or somthing with out the cheese, and sour cream. The chicken, rice, veggies, all that stuff ussually isn't so bad, its the cheese and fried things that pack the punch. Also if possible get beans that arn't refried, the ones that are just whole beans, ussually don't have the oil or lard or what ever that makes the refried ones so yummy.

Tacos like the ones at Taco Bell...they have little grease, lots of lettuce, tomatoes, and a small amount of cheese and beef. Also, look for dishes that say they are low fat, low cal, low sodium, whatever you're most concerned about. Avoid dishes with cheesey sauces and deep fried stuff.

Of course, it's all about moderation anyway. Sure you can have ________ (fill in the blank) but just don't eat it everday or eat large portions of it.

Oh, chicken is the best to get...chicken is better than beef which is better than pork.

I always go for a chicken taco salad with lots of salsa for dressing -- yummy!

I can't be any help here because I am out of control when it comes to mexican food. If I go to a resaurant the only thing I try to watch is my portions, otherwise I order whatever I want. Any other type of food I am ok, but mexican food and healthy usually do not go together for me, so I try to avoid it except for treating myself once in a while (too much lately though).
