Smile Newbie Checkin' In

HI! I've been looking for a smallish online support group. Could this be it?? I started South Beach last Monday 8/15 & can happily (though cautiously, b/c it seems too good to be true) say that I've lost 7 pounds! It is really, really hard to believe. I've tried WW off and on for YEARS & never lost that first 5 pounds - never got that cute 5 lb. ribbon. So, I'm happy but very guarded.

I hope that I can join in with some other friendly "chicks" on the Beach!

My stats: 37 y/o, starting weight = 159, current = 152, goal weight = 130. Other interesting stuff: married, no kids, just ran a marathon in June, not running anymore but I"m back in the gym & loving spinning!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying each of your Mondays! Roxy55

Welcome, Roxy!

Congrats on running a marathon! What an accomplishment! I'm dying to try spinning but I've heard such scary things that I haven't tried it yet. Is it as horrifically hard as I've heard? If I can do 30 minutes on the elliptical at a high rate and incline, do you think I'd be in good enough shape to try it?

We're glad to have you here! You may find the Exercise forum fun too. Check out the FAQ for more information on SBD, especially the stickies at the top. Check out the recipe forum for great recipes, especially in Phase 1. I did P1 the first time without the Peanut Butter Cup for dessert, and I'm not sure how I made it! It's fabulous!

We'd love to see you in the daily thread--that's the one with the name of the day in the title. Glad to have you with us, Roxy!

Hi Roxy! I'm still new here too (started back on SB on the 12th and my best friends/sisters also started on the 15th -- they have also joined here too). I am on day 9 and I am down 9 lbs so far. I have seen the lifestyle change to the SB way work for my SIL and BIL and my FIL and MIL. I am in for the count this time and looking forward to having a great time on the beach

Wow -- a marathon! How inspiring

Thumbs up I'm new too.

Hi, Roxy,
Today was my first posting also. I lost 2 lbs. last week (1st week) by eating 5 small meals with protein and walking/biking 15-45 min. daily. Doesn't it feel great to get started. Hope to see your postings often.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will certainly have a look over at the daily chat a little later today. It's so funny reading the post from BeachGal re: how difficult spinning is b/c all I could think of was Ruthxxx's quote about gutting a chicken!! I think that you should certainly try spinning, BeachGal, most of the instructors that I've had let you go at your own pace & you eventually build up your endurance as you would with any exercise. I personally love the music & the intensity. You sweat a lot and that always makes me feel like I"ve really had a workout!!!

And, peanut butter cup dessert??? I"ve GOT to check that out!!

Take care ladies & I'll see you on the Chat!
