Default Chat - August 26th

It's barely the 26th here in Nevada, but I felt strange posting in the Monday thread. I hope it's okay that I started a new one

My name is Meranda and I'm new to 3FC. This is my first post on the Depression and Weight Issues board. You can check out my biography in the appropriate thread, if you're interested.

What does everyone have planned for today?

I'm going to Curves tonight and will hopefully get my 6-week diet plan.

Hi Meranda Welcome to Our Board
we're a very supportive bunch of chicks here!
Joanne Thanks for the ideas! I have coffee Water Fiber 1 and 3 bean salad for lunch.
So hopefully Things get moving!
in re to the accessible bathroom stalls I don't normally use them just because if it makes sense theres too much room. But my pet peeve is A People who don't need to use them but do when all the other stalls are available!
and when they put the baby changing table in there. What if someone has a really big wheelchair or a more cumbersome walker?
Thenagain I've been in places where they do have an accessible bathroom but they don't tell you where it is.
Back to work I'm a busy broad today!

Little ghostlie - I've heard of living in the PAST, but the future??? Are you speaking to us from your time travel machine where it's the 26th today?

Welcome to the group. You'll find wonderful (and occasionally sarcastic)support here.

Meranda – WELCOME!

to everyone!

I wish it was the 26th, I would be in Vegas Course then the following Monday I start work :-p

It’s been a good day. I cheated a little today. I usually weigh in on Sundays… but I weighed in this morning and I’m down 1lb. Altho I’m not going to mark that down just yet. We all know how things can change through out the week. But it makes me feel good none-the-less. I’ve really slacked off big time with my weight loss plan. Particularly when I first started I was doing good. I’m trying to get that motivation back. I think we may be going to the gym tonight. I have to wait for my father to come by and trade cars with me. He’s driving the truck, and I’m going to need that for Wednesday. I’m taking my uncle to the LA airport and I’m going to need to haul all his eye glasses.

Okie, that sounded weird… why would I need a truck to haul some eye glasses?? Well, my uncle runs a small charity out here for children in Thailand. He collects old eye glasses from those who do not need them because of an upgrade or downgrade in prescription. Last year he collected over 25,000 pairs of eyeglasses and he made the front page of the Sun news paper. Well front page for our Section (which is like Section C or something like that… for the local news). Many of the people in Thailand cannot afford medical insurance and/or are unable to afford to pay for glasses. So by donating all these glasses, he has made it more possible for these people to afford them. We have a family friend out in Thailand who is an optometrist and is willing to help us with these glasses. If I can find the article in the newspaper about it I will try to post a link to it. But needless to say I will be spending my day Wednesday trying to not get lost in LA

I gotta run folks, house cleaning is calling

HI everyone

Well I got a call about my interview this am......it is postponed because of summer hours.......in the meantime it is preventing me from applying for courses as I don't know what to expect in the fall. I am trying not to get too worked up about it but I have so much nervous energy with back to school, possible new job, course work and life............so I am cooking and cleaning..........making 2 potatoe dishes, a chicken dish, chili, spagh sauce and cleaning fridge drawers, freezer, and generally tidying up..........

Anyhow nice to see lots of posts. Hugs to everyone! I am down between 8-10 lbs in the last month.........my weight is really yo yoing as I am not doing anything specific except being more conscious about what I am putting in my mouth and trying to keep moving.........which means not planting myself in front of my keyboard.

Have a great day!

Liz

5 Reasons You Can't Lose Weight
By Camille Noe | 15/09/2003

You're doing your best to slim down, but the scale doesn't seem to budge. Sound familiar? "Weight loss revolves around all aspects of your lifestyle — sleep, stress, even mood," says Leslie Bonci, MPH, RD. "And if you're neglecting one of these, you may be sabotaging your success."

We've come up with the top five reasons you may not be dropping dress sizes. Read on to find out if one's affecting you — so you can get back to getting results.

You're skimping on sleep. "If you don't sleep enough, your body looks for another way to find energy," says Bonci. "More often than not, that means you end up overeating just to stay awake." Plus, she adds, when you're exhausted you're less inclined to make smart food choices, and may even reach for 'quick fuel' — think sugar-laden or starchy products like donuts. Aim for seven to nine hours of shut-eye a night.

You're not combining diet and exercise. "Many people think that if they work out, they can eat whatever they want," says Kelli Calabrese, MS, a spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise. "They may gain muscle, which is great, but they won't see their shape change significantly until they cut back on calories, too."

You're stressed out. Stress works similarly to sleep deprivation, in that many people reach for food to cope, says Calabrese. Plus, many avoid the gym when they're anxious or overloaded, thinking they don't have time. But Calabrese points out that a good workout is crucial during tough times: "Exercise is one of the best things you can do to bring your stress level down."

You look at food as the enemy. "Restricting your favorite foods, or targeting foods as 'good' and 'bad' will only set you up for a binge," says Bonci. "The key to weight loss is overall calorie reduction. Eat what you like, but eat less of it." And remember that eating after exercise is a must, stresses Calabrese. "Don't skip meals, post-workout, thinking you'll burn even more calories," she says. "Without fuel, your body goes into starvation mode, and your metabolism becomes sluggish to compensate." She recommends a balanced snack or meal that combines protein, carbohydrates and fat (like yogurt).

You haven't tried a new approach. "Many people I work with relapse many times before successfully losing weight," says Bonci. "So don't give up if your first attempt isn't successful," she says. "Switch things up by lifting weights or eating several mini-meals a day, for example. Try, try again — sooner or later your persistence will pay off."

"It's barely the 26th here in Nevada, but I felt strange posting in the Monday thread." I don't know how I managed that, since I looked at the computer clock a couple of times before posting. I must have been more tired then I thought. Thanks to whoever fixed that title

And thank you for all of the warm welcomes! You're sweeties.

Sue: good luck finding fresh motivation. Have you been to Vegas before, or will your trip later this month be your first?

Cathy: I've been going to Curves for about a month now. I enjoy it a lot, it's a nice no-pressure environment and since you're moving on to something new every 30 seconds, it's hard to get bored!

Liz: thanks for posting that article Lots of great tips.

Well, I'm off to start my food log for the day and then I need to get ready to go workout. Talk to you ladies later.

Little Ghostlie - No I've been to Vegas a few times. The last time I went was in umm... April 2005. I bowl in a vegas sweepers bowling league. So at the end of each season we bowl our last game in Vegas. It's fun and good exercise too Prior to April, it had been at least 12+ years since I've been to Vegas. How far do you live from Vegas?

Okie I'm putting off the gym tonight to go to the bowling alley for Karaoke night... bad bad bad I know... but I'll make it up tommorrow. I also promise not to do any drive throughs while I'm on the road going to LA International Airport.... unless it's for healthy stuff like a salad... however that's kinda hard to eat and drive

Take care everyone!
Sue...

I bought a scale, and then I bought krispy kremes. End of that story.

Anyways, I am exhausted today, so I am going to bed early, which feels so nice.

Have a great night everyone!

Sue: I live almost 400 miles north of Vegas It's a very different climate up here, cooler but also very dry. Have fun bowling in Sin City!

It's gotten some bad press around the boards, but the McDonald's fruit and walnut salad is a good healthy choice for drivers on the run. Since the yogurt is packed in its own container, you can just eat the apple slices and grapes while you're on the road. Just stay away from those candied walnuts

G'night manibelle
