I used to think that naturally skinny people who could eat whatever they wanted were soooo lucky but I was thinking about it the other day and it occured to me - they arn't all that lucky.
Think about it, someone who is natrually skinny usually eats whatever they want whenever they want and in whatever amount they want right? Excluding naturally skinny people who are also health concious, Im talking about those who just eat and eat and never seem to gain an ounce. Now they will eat junk food and take out and foods we all know are really bad for us, b/c well they don't care b/c they won't gain weight but even though they are skinny they are really unhealthy and at risk for so many things that we usually think only fat people get (high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc)
Now what made me think of this was an ad in my magazine that showed a skinny woman next to fat man and they had the same cholestorol level. See fat people who have to learn to eat right and exercise are alot healthier than those who are naturally skinny and eat whatever they want, in the long run! So YAY for us!
that is really interesting!!!.....makes me feel better..heheh I couldn't stand people that sat down to eat lunch and had like a cheese steak fries coke and dessert and I was there with my salad..UGH drove me nutts...thanks..I guess its good to know that the "bad stuff" doesn't just vanish off of natural skinny people ...
exactly! they just eat it b/c it tastes good and they know they won't gain weight but don't think about the consequences. Not all skinny people mind you, Im not being stereotypical!
Excellent point Trixie! I've never quite thought about it like that before. I mean just think of what those people who can and DO eat anything must be doing to themselves?! And probably without much thought about it either. Maybe we're lucky in some twisted way because our poor choices manifest themselves on the outside as well as the inside. Aww jeez, what am I saying!! It still sucks, but at least I feel better knowing that I am now HEALTHY rather than just thin, because "just thin" obviously isn't all it's cracked up to be! So thanks for pointing that out Trixie, it gives me a whole new perspective on why I'm happy to just be me!
Bad health has the same affect on everyone internally. Kinda like the old "don't judge a book by it's cover". They may be skinny, but internally, they're still suffering from the grease they've consumed. And frankly, many overly skinny people who do eat all they want can do so because they are ill. My cousin's one good example. She eats constantly and whatever. But she's always had a thyroid problem and a few other ailments. The thyroid keeps her from gaining weight. My husband also has a thyroid problem...full blown Grave's Disease for him. He eats whatever he wants...usually grease, and drinks Mountain Dew by the barrel. Problem is, he's so sick, he's hardly ever hungry. So what he wants is small and seldom. He might go an entire day and have a Wendy's junior bacon cheeseburger and small fry and that be enough...along with 6 cans of Mtn. Dew that is. He doesn't eat until at least 1:00, and most often just skips lunch entirely and generally eats dinner around 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. And he only eats that because if he doesn't eat something with his medicine, it makes him sicker.
So when you see a skinny person wolfing down a cheeseburger and frosty, realize that they may even be much worse off health-wise. And if they're not, they will be if they continue eating in that manner for the rest of their lives.
Another aspect is that some of the really skinny people I know who do eat all the fattening foods they can find, are generally very active people. An old co-worker was married to a naturopathic doctor. So whenever she wasn't around, he scarfed burgers and donuts. LOL He would eat 6 donuts then go out for a 5 mile run at lunch.
Very true Trixie! Case in point: I brought two friends hiking with me last week and they are stick thin people that eat junk food everyday and never seem to gain a pound. Well, guess what? The chubby one (me ) can make it all the way up the mountain without stopping, while my friends were huffing and puffing after only 3 or 4 minutes into the hike! It was insane! I had to keep stopping and wait for them to catch their breaths!!!
That's so very true, I was thinking of something similar not so long ago. My sister is exactly like this - she can scarf down anything and not take a gram - but on the health side, I'm not sure of how long she'll do later on (she's 20 and looks already older than me, not mentioning that she's so regularly sick and looking sick that it's frightening).
Somehow, perhaps we're "lucky", in a way - lucky of getting the external syptoms, the fat telling us that "it's time to eat healthy, or you'll be in serious trouble in a few years". In any case, I find it more encouraging to think this way, than whine on how unfair it is that I can't eat whatever I want
a friend of mine is dealing with this right now. She has always been slender and eats a very healthy diet in general, but just found out that her cholesterol is really high and her blood pressure is "borderline." She's actually worse off than I am there, my blood pressure is at the low end of the spectrum (I haven't had my cholesterol tested. I need to.). She was horrified and is now battling to get her cholesterol down, but she's never had to watch what she eats or do a lot of exercising, and she's not seeing results the way a heavy person (like me!) on a diet does, so she's really frustrated. I honestly think I'd rather be able to see the differences on the scale and feel that pride, instead of being frustrated over not seeing any results.
I agree skinny people arent all lucky. Historically in many places they were even considered unhealthy compared to voluptuous women. I need to teleport myself back to medieval times. I would have been considered a sexy goddess instead of a roly poly. Isn't it strange how society standards as a whole have gone downhill
