Default Am I Crazy?

Ok, I have a couple of questions/vents:

1. My beach buddy keeps weighing herself, like three times a day and whining to me about how she keeps gaining weight. Then I start semi-doubting--which is completely irrational. She is in her second week and is under weight (according to weight watchers). I am in my 3rd day and 100 pounds over weight. I keep telling her to stay off the d#@m scales, but she can't help herself.

2. I just ate at TGI Friday's and tried the Atkins Cheese Cake, OMG, have any of you tried it...It says it is low carb, but I swear it has to be sinful. With 8 grams of net carbs, it is just as good, or better than any cheesecake I have ever eaten.

Thanks for listening and let me know what you think.

Hello Sunnybunny,

1) sounds like venting

2) South Beach is nothing like Atkins. Have you read the book? That cheesecake IS sinful, very high in FAT. SoBe is GOOD carb, not low carb.

You said you were on Day 3. Are you following Phase 1? The point of phase one is to 'detox' from sweets and sugar addiction. You can find loads of info and recipes here on the SB forum. best wishes.

Talking

Some ppl love the scale--some ppl hate the scale... My Beach buddy has scale avoidance like me and weighs more often than me. So I think it comes and goes.

Yep, I would wonder about the Cheesecake in PH1. Low Carb sometimes is loaded with other "stuff" be careful of imitation... try thinking of this diet as whole healthy food instead of LC

I think there's a really good cheese cake recipe for phase 2 on the site isn't there? (made of ricotta, splenda, eggs, vanilla) I know I found one and made it at home. Just a small sliver of this recipe was a big treat for hubbie and I. Our daughter ate the rest over the course of a few days.

Yeah, I looked up the ingredient for the TGIF cheese cake and it had part-skim ricotta, splenda, vanilla, ff creamer, sugar free white chocolate and the crust is made of wheat germ. It wasn't a huge amount of fat suprisingly.

And I did read the SB book from cover to cover. I guess I am so used to diets like WW, where you can pull up any food and find a value for it or a yes or no.

I have been doing really well, and I have not been eating high fat foods, although I used to never eat fat at all and ate mostly carbs. I am really excited about this way of life, because I know I can stick to it. I have not missed carbs, except for the two day headache that I had, which is gone.

I have not broken any phase one rules.

I'm sure it was delicious. However, wheat germ and white chocolate are not supposed to be eaten until Phase II. Never mind, you'll be OK.
Is your buddy on The Beach too? By the way, she should be weighing herself stark naked after potty in the morning and elaving the scale alone for the rest of the day. Our weight fluctuates all over the place during the day depending on what we eat and drink and what we are wearing.

Sunny Bunny

1) Your weigh loss buddy is doing an unjustice to herself. Weighing -in every day like I do, its bad enough alone weighing -in 3 and 4 times a day.Fluctuations in weight go up & down during the day. I'm weighing in every day to see what carbs are good for me, to keep on my menu and what aren't,that I take away.

2) Atkins is different diet from the SB. We're not a low carb diet. That cheesecake sounds delish............,but you can have the same the SB Way.
Check the recipes for snacking on the SB food threads. Hugs BB

According to the Center for the Science in the Public Interest, the cheesecake has 25 grams of fat in it. Here's the link to the article on restaurant fare. I'm not sure if it's the regular cheesecake they are listing or the low-carb one you mentioned. They list the "best bites" for several different restaurants.
